Yesterday at the MAP meet we rolled out the new logo.

We are using the logo on the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages too.

It was so difficult to decide even what type of logo we wanted.

We did though want to move away from the old one, as the Yin Yang symbol represents Chinese martial arts more than it does the multiple styles we represent.

We then thought that anything else we came up with was too close to many MMA ones and that took us in the opposite direction by ignoring the more traditional styles.

So given the fact we were all useless at deciding we employed someone who knew what they were doing.

We gave him a brief and said that we wanted a logo that said who we were, but steered away from traditional martial arts logos, the like of which you'd probably find on a club badge.

We liked the under armour type logo. Just initials, but also instantly recognisable. the hard bit was not being a copycat.

There will always be something we don't like about a design, but in the end we are happy with this logo.

We have some colour options so can cater for black or white t-shirts.

I know that it's been ten years nearly since the current MAP logo was designed (in an open forum competition) and that it's probably time for an improvement but I can't help but think the new logo is too corporate, almost like I could see it in any setting but look past it thinking it was for any old company rather than an online martial arts community.

    Not for me.

    Completely accept that critique, Anth.

We wanted something that would be a recognisable brand.

It's up to Mitch and myself to grow MAP and turn it into that vision.

I feel it's missing a"P". MAP rather than MA planet. Other than that I like it. :)

Now I am curious as to what it looks like. Anyone have an image they can post here?

    Thanks.

None of those are accessible for me. Guess I'll wait for the big unveiling later.

    I guess someone had to take a P,as I don't see one,just an "M" and an "A".

Isn't that rather odd? Just "MA" for a site referred to as "map"?And with the words "Martial Arts Planet" beneath?

If I was in marketing I'd say error.

Not that it matters,as you aren't selling anything.

MAP will still be called MAP with the new logo, just like Facebook is called "FB" with just an "F" for its logo.

Thank you, Simon and Mitch, for your continued investment in this community.

    Thank you.

The MOD Team all agreed and disagreed on different points and we could have continued to go round in circles.

In the end we had to make a decision and I actually think the FB, Twitter and Instagram pages look a lot fresher with the new logo.

Very creative and great use of white space.

The peaks on the letters almost look like the summits on a mountain range, perhaps alluding to our strength in unity and down-to-earth spirit.

Or something like that. I like it, whatever meaning people choose to see in it.

Yep, mountain peaks. Because we're rising to the highest level. And all trails to the summit enjoy the same view from the top. And stuff like that. :jester:
