    Monday 20.2.17:

Since I have the few days to try the CrossFit trainings for free, I skipped today's karate class (and learned that sensei was sick, so he didn't come, either) and went to the group CrossFit class:

    19:00-20:00 - CrossFit:
There were more people today, a group of 8 and many more doing their own stuff in the gym. There was a different instructor than the female I knew. He was also nice. We introduced ourselves and he checked my form when doing stuff, which I appreciated.

    - Warm-up: 5 mins of:
    - Run 2 rounds around the gym
    - Again forgot the name but: 10 squats with 10 kg weight putting down and raising overhead (hm, now that I thing of it the name was something with overhead...)
    - 10 normal squats - instructor stopped me to tell me I need to look slightly up when doing squats instead of watching the floor in front of me.

    - Main subject today were back squats with a barbell. Which sounded better than last time's handstand push-ups  We were told to always do 3 reps and build up the weights. I started with the 15 kg barbell, asking the instructor to check me. He sead my form is ok, but to remember to look forward and push into the heels. I was adding 5 weights, so always +10 kg. Instructor said we have 20 minutes, no need to hurry it up. I did up to 55 kg. He came and told me to show him, I did, though took the opportunity to ask what happens if I can't come beack up from the squat :D I meant in general, but he assured me it won't happen (now). He check my form and said: You have strong legs? I wasn't sure what he meant, so I answered: "Hmm, not in particular, I think?". Instructor: "I wasn't asking, I am telling you - you have strong legs. Not many girls today squatted 55 kg 3 times and you could do more." Well, I probably wasn't at my total limit, but backed off telling him I don't feel confident as I am not familiar with this, which he knew and agreed it's enough for today. Well, I would be lying if I said this didn't make me a bit happy! Even though I didn't really think that... Everyone there is better than me, so at least I didn't feel too bad about myself :D
    - Altogether I went: 3x 15 kg, 3x 25 kg, 3x 35 kg, 3x 45 kg 3x3 55 kg.

For the final work-out today we got:
    - 5 rounds or max 14 mins of:
    - 5 handstand push-ups (I tailed the instructor when he said he'd show an alternative for those who can't do these, which was: feet on a box, butt up and 5 push-ups until head touches floor)
    - 10x lift the barbell from above the knees under the chin - like a clean but starting from higher (forgot the name, again). Instructor advised 55 kg for guys, 35 kg for girls. I prepared the weight as instructed, but when I tried lifting it, before I even got a chance, he told me to only go for 25 kg, which was something I completely agreed with :)
    - 15x jump over the box - I put it at the smaller side, having it shorter than all the others except for the other new guy. And totally didn't regret it in the slightest :D

I finished the 5th round at 13:30, half a minute before the limit. Only then I found out there were people finishing in half the time. I had probably most trouble with the damned box jumps. Had to take breaks or doing one at a time toward the end. As for the barbell thing, I could tell myself that I was wriggling under it with a bad form. I saw an experienced girl lifting much more and with ease, hardly moving at all. It looked like it came easy to her... I need to learn the form better. I only had this exercise explained before the start. I took a break after the 5 lifts in the 4th round, in the last round I got a breath of fresh air for anything and managed the 10 lifts in a row and faster. And felt like I did better - form-wise.
At the end I was completely spent, playing with a thought whether what they do isn't a plan to get us newbies to willingly commit a suicide :D I have a lot of room to improve my general fitness.

    Tuesday 21.2.17

    Worked overtime, missed training.
Couldn't fall asleep, decided to cancel the Wednesday's morning CrossFit...

    Wednesday 22.2.17:

18:00-19:30 - Beginner karate classes at uni:

Yep, new semester is here and I went for the first class. I came half an hour late, because sensei told me it starts at 6. However, it was actually two classes per 60 mins, starting at 17:30, which only will be merged into one starting next week. I only missed the inicial introduction of the first class, though.

    - We did a stepping game, 10 jumping squats, squat down and push your partner to the floor, 10 squats with partner back to back, push-up position, sweeping each other's arms.
    - Footwork - the basic step forward/backward/sideward and turn, with me assisting sensei a bit.
    - Learning and practising tsuki. 10x 3, 10x 5, 10x 10 tsuki per one count at the end
    - Some (not too many) rolling push-ups - only in the first class, there wasn't enough time in the second.

As the two classes were identical except with different people, I should write the whole thing x2

There were surprisingly a lot of guys today! Especially in the secong class. The ratio was 1:1 even! :D Also some familiar faces from last semester showed themselves, too :)

    Thursday 23.2.17:

    19:30-21:00 - Karate class - 108 Gekisai Dai Ichi:

We started half an hour late because the dojo needed to be cleaned.
    - Today's programme was 108x Gekisai Dai Ichi kata.
    - I didn't feel too well yesterday evening, so I again decided against morning crossfit and hoped I'll do fine today. I did. At least until around the 60th kata, where a slight weakness came over me, but when I got a minute break, trying to get some background music to play from my phone again, while others opened the window, I was fine. I didn't really do any kata full power, today :( And therefore also wasn't too exhausted in the end.

Damn cold! It is mild and it doesn't really restrict me, but it's moderately annoying and I hope to get rid of it soon :) Again I started with an intensive ginger, lemon and honey cure :D There will be a seminar in the weekend and I'd rather not be tied to a spot close to my handkerchiefs. ...Oh well... :)
...and of course, tommorrow is my last chance to use the free CrossFit class! And I only managed 2 classes so far (in the 10-day period).
    - end of rant -

    Friday 24.2.17:

Today didn't start too well, as the heavy windstorm kept me awake in the middle of the morning and because of other stuff, I didn't sleep too well. Or as well as I would like.
Today was also my last opportunity to go for the free CrossFit class, so although I didn't feel all too much like it, I went.

19:00-19:45 (we finished earlier today) - CrossFit:

When I came I saw a shirt-less muscled guy doing burpees, jumping on a box and lifting a dumbbell, completely covered in sweat and very red and the insructor and other standing by him, urging him not to stop, come on, go on and so on. When he apparently finished, he got an applause, just as he basically fell facefirst down. Wow, maybe it wasn't such a great idea for me to come today :D :vanish:
The coach is nice and friendly, but sometimes I just see her as a devil in disguise...

    - 5 min warm-up with 500 m rowing, 3 burpees, 6 again the squats with the 10 kg weight to be pulled above and 9 normal squats. Repeat (we all only managed one round and a bit of rowing from the second).
    - Stretching
    - There was no tchnical part today, only the work-out. Apparently a big competition - The Open - is coming up and there will be 5 weeks with prescribed routine that the participants can compare. So we only did that today. It was to finish this or do a max of 20 (!) minutes today:
    10x snatch
    15x burpee box jump-overs
    20x snatch
    15x burpee box jump-overs
    30x snatch
    15x burpee box jump-overs
    40x snatch
    15x burpee box jump-overs
    50x snatch
    15x burpee box jump-overs

    - The elite version was for women to use a 15 kg dumbell and for men 25 kg. Most of the people at lest didn't do that, I think. I was told to grab an 8 kg kettlebell, just as the other woman, the third who was originally probably supposed to participate in the competition got of with 12 kg.
The box was I think even for the competition allowed to be smaller for women - the one I usually use - 50 cm high, men had it tougher.
Hm, I see this was what was on the Workout of the Day site for today.

So, as for my feelings. The snatches were alright. I was close to the other two women and noticed the correct technique was probably to use the body a lot, even to the point of lifting the heels. I did use the body, but thought I might have trouble coordinating with the heels and it actually looked even more exhausting, so I skipped that, but it was probably alright as the coach said my technique was ok. To be honest, I quite enjoyed the snatching. I would probably be able to work with a heavier weight, but I am starting and seeing as I wasn't required to
On the other hand, I think I already mentioned here that I hate burpees and I hate the box jumps. And this exercise was both. I mean, it was soooo terrible! I hated it XD I was exhausted even after the first round. Keeping pace with the other two women, I was able to usually finish the snatches faster, while they overtook me at the terrible jumping around XD. So I did the snatches without break. I took only one short in the middle o the 40 snatches, but just for my comfort not that it was needed. Then decided against it to give myself more time to rest int he burpees :D I am not sure, but it may have also been because I am not in my best condition this week, that beginning with the second round of burpees, I felt like throwing up as I had to jump down, up and so on. This feeling got better later, but I was completely exhausted, breathing heavily and I always hid in the lying position behind the box and kept lying there for a couple of seconds before going up and before the coach sees me XD
The 20 minutes were running out, so I sped the end of the snatching and managed to finish the 50 right before the ring bell. Finishing the last set of burpees was never my intention to be honest XD Well, I didn't feel very well after the training.... I shall rest early today...

Also for the last few days (not sure if it started after the last CrossFit), I've had a bit of trouble with the sides of my calf, when quickly getting up from a squat. It got actually worse now... not a terribly painful thing, but another annoyance... so I will pretend it's definitely just sore muscles and hope it'll go away soon ^^

    Kobudo - Nunchaku seminar

    Saturday 25.2.17:

    10:00-17:00 - Nunchaku seminar:
Again, the kobudo seminar was held in Světlá nad Sázavou - a small city about 2 hours drive from my home (and was scheduled to start at 9:00 originally), so I had a rather early start of the day (by my scales, at least).
Including me, there were the three kobudo regulars from our dojo, then three kobudoka from the vicinity of the town and two people from the shaolin sort of kung fu organization that trains in the dojo the seminar was held in. So not too many people, but just enough to still fit nicely into the dojo and not hit each other with the nunchaku.
Previously we practised with the nunchaku only two times and not for too long. We once went through the irst five techniques of the hojo undo.

Today we started with how to do the etiquette and sensei taught us some basic strikes and ways to handle the nunchaku - some of those "swirling" techniques - like the changing directions and stopping nunchaku on some parts of our bodies, various ways to change grip form one hand to the other.
We did the first half of the hojo undo - the five techniques we already saw once before - always block + strike = 1 technique. We always did it on the spot, then while stepping forward and after in pairs where one partner attacks with a staff, the other practises the nunchaku techniques.

After a slightly longer (maybe two hours) lunch break then we planned, sensei continued with the remaining half of the hojo undo. We didn't practise against the staff anymore. We also did various of those swirling techniques. They looked quite complicated, but when I followed senseis moves, I was somehow able to do them - or at least grasp the idea how to do them. I sometimes had trouble with my grip slipping on the chain part - maybe it was slightly longer for me than it should be, though it can be compensated with a technique I didn't have, yet. So in some techniques I had to stop to adjust the grip, but still did a bit better than I thought I would.
Since we practised all the 10 techniques of the hojo undo, sensei decided to teach us the Nunchaku kihon kata. He taught us the steps in about 30 minutes - it is not a long kata, but it is new and I hope I won't forget.
Toward the end, we made pairs and tried hitting with the nunchaku - to get a feeling for it. Either rattan nunchaku against rattan staff, or a foam-covered nunchaku against a foam-covered staff (my case, as I had bought the soft nunchaku). Although soft, they had a tendency to bounce back from the staff and hit hte fingers or hands back. And I am reluntant to say it was entirely painless :D
In the middle of the seminar, we found a stand with a tape-covered tennis ball tied on a short rope to the top of it - a practise tool to try to hit it with precision. I tried. First time, I probably hit also the upper part of the stand and send the whole thing to the floor. I pretended like I know nothing about it, but nobody cared, so I tried again tree more times with a friend holding the stand for me, all times succesfully hitting the ball (my advantage was that the ball was precisely in my height - or the height of my guard, so I just had to hit hard horizontally). Then the friend tried. He was taller, had more trouble. On his third try, the old looking softened nunchaku we borrowed broke into parts flying everywhere. Well, everyone noticed now, so we peacefully left the stand be XD
At the end of the seminar, though, when everyone else left except for sensei and us, sensei encouraged us to try. We did, but only with our foam nunchaku. He also showed us some techniques or ways to practise with the kung-fu wooden dummy they had there. I tried only briefly, but it seems like and interesting thing.
Also at the end of the seminar, some students asked sensei to show the whole nunchaku hojo undo so they can record it as a reference. We took our phones, too. Sensei then came to us if we want to record the kata, too. Fo course! I said. Sensei was like, ok, then go, show it and he will record you. There seemed to be no way back for me, as words didn't work on sensei. I messed a couple of times and when I finished the last time, I found I changed the order of two techniques, before sensei took pity on me and did the kata alongside me so that I could copy...

We managed to do quite a lot of things on this seminar and it didn't feel as hurried as last time. I had a good time.

    Monday 27.2.17:

In the morning I was again asked by sensei if I could go to teach a kids class at an elementary schoold just a bit out of Prague. I had to refuse him a few times the previous weeks, as I had a lot of work. Well, today was more manageable, so I agreed.

15:25-16:20 - Children class at Jesenice:

This is in a regular school gym - much bigger than a dojo, with not too small a group of energetic children. Sensei advised me to do some basic techniques and a lot of physical exercise as they have a lot of energy (as I know all too well). I did some game of tag, also kicking and another pressure element included. The stretching didn't work, they would run or hide everywhere, so I got them to do a few burpees. Then we did a team competition in shiko dachi with some sumo squats. I think they did enjoy it, but the competition made them cheat. Again some squats and we tried knee strikes. They were hard to manage, but enjoyed the kiai (or rather, screaming). Trying to always outshout them, I was sure I have to lose my voice (but so far, I am fine). Well, tough, as usual, but I think I did make tham release at least some of the energy.

    18:30-20:00 - Karate class:
    - Stretching
    - Kihon on the spot - sensei always showed a technique (always a type of tsuki) to be done a 100 times. Altogether we did between 2000 and 2200 tsuki (depending on if you count a double strike one or two strikes :) )
    - Pads: Mae geri (Kin geri - from below): 20x for each side
    - 20 push-ups
    - Pads: Kin geri from the front and back leg - 10x (20 kicks) for each side
    - 30 push-ups
    - Pads. Kin geri from the front leg, from the rear and mae tobi geri (flying front kick) - 10x for each side
    - Practising entering into techniques in pairs - one person just doesn't move, the other practices.
    - 2 rounds of randori (alternating between attack and block)
    - 100 half sit-ups

    Tuesday 28.2.17:

    18:30-20:00 - Advanced karate class:
    - For a warm-up, sensei shouted that veryone sits down, only me and another girl keep standing. Everyone did, the other girl then suddenly slapped my shoulder, run fast, jumped over sensei, sat down, while sensei stood up, run to me staring dumbfoundedly on the place, also slapped my shoulder and seeing my blank expression, she asked: "you probably didn't play this before, right?" :D Well, I apparently skipped the trainings when one of the students taught us this game that she plays with kids in hte kindergarden. It was a very fast-paced one, slightly strange, but quite fun :D
    - Footwork practise to the sides and front, building it up to moving in a square with uraken uchi and ko-uke. Than we made groups of three and practised this movement togerther - for coordination mostly.
    - For most part of the class we practised uraken in pairs, in various ways - mostly sensei-chosen bunkai (one also from Seiyunchin, one from Sepai, I think, that gave me more trouble).
    - Traditional belly work-out at the end, with calf-raises also added.

After training I went to a beerhouse with some people. I didn't put much emphasis on it being a "beerhouse", I just went there to talk to people. I, unlike most Czech people, don't drink beer. At all. I don't like it. But I have never seen such an obstinate waiter. He didn't want to hear about it and despite my protests, still brought me a small beer . I made up ALL sorts of excuses, until we got to how he'll show me how I definitely can ex it and brought me a big funnel. He told me like some people say they don't drink beer but he makes them. Like that woman over there. Well, I told him I am not as soft and there's no way, until he finally brought me a juice. And here I was, sooo thirsty! I had to spend again some time before he brought me second one with many protest, undoing his belt at my table to uncapping the small bottle as a protet. I finally ordered food - I wanted a meatless tortilla. Well, I think he lost any hopes for me by that time :D
It was a bit unusual experience and the beerhouse obviously had really a lot kinds of beer, but, well, I'd apreciate if I could get some non-alko faster to quell my thirst.

That said I am still not feeling too well, kind of feeling like I am falling apart, as my back gave me a bit of trouble during training, and as usual, after training I didn't feel too well and had a headache. Also another reason I didn't need any alcohol.

    Wednesday 1.3.17:

18:00-19:30 - Karate class at uni:

    - Both classes put inot one, so the room was full of people. We did 10 rounds of a "sparring game" - slap partner's shoulders, then thighs, then thighs and shoulders. In between 10, 9, 8,... 1 push-up.
    - Junbi Undo
    - Belly work-out
    - 5 neko undo (cat push-ups)
    - Tsuki - normal, several on one count, then kizami, gyaku and oi, in the end combining them into a combination with a step forward: oi, gyaku, kizami tsuki.
    - Mae geri practise
    - Getting up and down right
    - Rolling push-ups (around 20 or 30)

Some students came for the first time today and probably bacause I am assisting sensei just a little bit (I hope that is the only reason!), they actually used polite speech on me when leaving! Like I am too old to just say bye to normally

    Thursday 2.3.17:

    19:15-21:25 - Karate class:

    - Warm up with all kata we knew (slowly): Gekisai Dai Ichi, Ni, Saifa, Seiyunchin, Shisochin, Sanchin, Kanryo Higaonna's turning Sanchin for me.
    - Junbi Undo
    - 50 push-ups (I didn't do them in one go, I had to take 3 or so tiny breaks)
    - One girl suddenly excused herself she would leave for today, not looking very good, but not wanting to say the reason. She left and I was wondering if I should go after her to check if she's fine. Obviously sensei was of the same mind as he sent a questioning look my way and motioned with his head for me to follow her. I missed a bit of the work-out then.
    - Block practise: 100 of each: Age, yoko, harai, uchi barai and uchi uke. Then a few times all five combined
    - Practising (solo, not in pairs): San Dan Gi Ichi, Ni, San, Shi and Go + renzoku kumite both attack and defence
    - In groups by grades our highest bunkai (Seiyunchin for me) - once free, once fast
    - At the end sensei called us one by one to stand before the class and show a kata of our choice. I did Seiyunchin. I messed on one technique - I knew and sensei pointed it out. Other than that I did quite ok on the soft part of the kata, as sensei said (I was paying attention to that and tried my best not to hurry the kata). On the other hand I should work on my kime in harai uke - there are a lot of places where a sequence ends with this block and apparently I didn't stop and didn't do kime properly. I had no idea I do that, so I must pay more attention next time.

After the training me and a friend took our nunchaku and a video from sensei and quickly went through the Nunchaku kihon kata three times in order not to forget it. I already struggled with some parts

    Friday:
I felt better the past two days so I figured a CrossFit session was in order to not fall out of it. I payed for the 10 entrances, however, as I understood they have to manually convert the money sent to a kind of membership which didn't happen till Friday ended, well, not even until now, so I couldn't book a class for the cheaper price and made Friday a rest day as a result.

    Saturday:
Main sensei said he was going to the mountains for a week and he would make a training today when we'll also make a plan for this week's classes. However, there was no training announced in the end and sensei left.
My only physical activity today was a 40 mins walk, since it was a beautiful spring-like sunny day, to my parents' house where I picked my bike and rode it maybe the 4 km back

    Sunday:
No kobudo class today, as most of the karate regulars agreed some time ago to go to TEPfactor - a game inspired by Ninja Factor that would take up most of the day. The game itself was payed for three hours. There were 25 rooms in 4 categories, one being strenght. We were warned it might be difficult, but I think it could be worse. That said, we didn't solve all the rooms before the time ran out. One was of the strenght category, where we were supposed to cross the room without touching a floor via tires nailed to the walls and three tires hanged on a rope. Three of us from our team crossed, two were unable and it was quite tiring so we didn't do it again. One person was sure she wouldn't make it no matter what, the other was tired from trying to continue from getting into a bad position (as well as the rest of us), so there was no point. Only on Sunday did we find out from the other karate team that a room that we spent 14 tries to finish properly wasn't actually as hard as we didn't have to climb over some boxes or wardrobes in order to not touch the door, as we thought, because of our mistake of not loggong in in the beginning. I always went second, always crossed the hurdles and well... we spent a lot of time and also effort in that room. It was kind of funny when we found out we were doing completely useless things :D We could have probably finihs more of the rooms if we didn't lose so much time :D
The game was a lot of fun, though, and since we've got a coupon for something similar, but more physically engaging, we'll probably do that soon, too :)
Anyway, I had no muscle aches after that, but I, again, felt a bit sick after it. And pulled or maybe rather pinched something giving me short bouts of sharp annoying pain in the buttocks when moving the right leg.

    Monday:
Since no one got any instructions from the missing sensei, apart from teh other sensei that got a message yesterday if she's got time, we tried to plan this week to keep the dojo going normally. Us lower belts and potential teachers in times of emergency made it generally clear we don't want to teach the self defence as we don't know much about it. So we tried to bargain with sensei to come at least for that one today. She said ok as long as we do the kids on Thursday and if we stay on the self-defence to assist her :) On Monday, surprisingly, our third sensei, who hasn't been coming for some time apparently got some info and willingly offered himsef, which was great. The adult class today was taught by a black belt who originally bargained with it, but we didn't forget :) After trading classes, it looks like all of them are black-belt-covered and will not be cancelled, which is great :) Well, apart from the Wednesday's uni class that will be on us...

    18:30 (well, maybe started a bit later) - 20:00 - Karate class:
    - The jumping kidergarden game we played recently for a warm-up
    - Stretching
    - Bunkai. Gekisai Dai Ichi slowly one by one in order for everyone to learn it. Then we split in groups to practise all of our kata. Gakisai Dai Ichi up to Seiyunchin and we attacked the teaching black belt for Shisochin and Sanseru, too.
    - Final kata - Seiyunchin for me (while trying to not repeat the mistakes I was pointed out last time) and that was it :)

And as for my health resume. Calves got ok last week. Teeth - one doesn't hurt for a long time anymore, one only slightly in some situations, one still hurts after close to two months and is sensitive to temperatures, which is annoying and I pray it will go away. I am coughing for three weeks and sometimes feel a bit sick for two. I think I won't try to communicate the CrossFit membership at least until Friday...

    Tuesday 7.3.17:

My coughing got worse on Monday and prevented me from sleep for a while. I was considering skipping Tuesday's class, but then decided I may feel too sluggish like that also because of a day of sitting. And I am glad I went.

    18:30 (or rather 45) -20:00 - Karate:
    - There was an accident on the road, so I arrived about 10 minutes later. Sensei and the three students were just having the inicial etiquette, sitting in seiza. I decided there was no need to hurry too much, since the already started and I was really lazy today, coughing where I went. I changed, went back across the entrance to the gym on to the bathroom when I heard sensei's voice: "Yeah, of course, no need to hurry. Going to bathroom is a must, why feel bad about it?" ...or something along those lines. I looked back and realized they were all still sitting in seiza, obviously waiting for me
    - Variations of a game of tag for a warm-up
    - stretching
    - Short partner drill of uraken
    - Kakie and all the bunkai we know (up to Seiyunchin for me) - I only did one side for Seiyunchin, there wasn't enough time
    - Final belly work-out

    Wednesday 8.3.17:

Sensei is away and asked me and another brown-belt friend to teach the uni class. We got some instructions about what to do - review techniques, teach blocks and maybe try San Dan Gi Ichi (a combination of blocks and strikes in pairs).... and waste them properly

18:00 - 19:30 - Beginner class at uni - first time teaching here:
    - There were a lot of people so we didn't participate in the warm-up as we let them run across the (rather short) side of the gym - forward, backward, sideways, ducks, frogs etc. Students were coming or some couldn't do it maybe? so we both ended up participating in the partner races - one person holds the other's legs, who walks on hands - forward (face down) and backward (face up). Short practise of hiza and mae geri in pairs. Then the friend tried to teach them mae and try ushiro ukemi - tha other one just once for fun. I didn't participate there for the lack of space, only showed the mae ukemi a couple of times...
    - Junbi Undo
    - I announced everyone has to stop the training once and say an exercise to be done 10%. Everyone has to pick one during the remaining hour of the training. As an example I started with Neko Undo  And as most girls, as of course, are not used to it, couldn't do it, I was extra careful to make all 10 in order to not look like a fool who can't do it herself...
    - I lead them through a quick review of tsuki and then explained age and later yoko uke as well as I could, testing their techniques later.
    - Then the friend took lead to explain an exercise - ippon kumite (we decided against san dan gi as I didn't think teaching the necessary harai uke as well today would be the best idea). There was an odd number of people, so I joined the students to make pairs. Where one person attacks, the other steps sideways to dodge with a block and strikes back - an easy one step exercise. My partner was a girl who used to do boxing. I encouraged her to co for a light contact when hitting my ribs from the side - to practise the distance. Well, to be honest, she went a bit harder than I would like, but it was still bearable for the time, so I never said anything. When we switched roles, she asked if she should seriously attack my face and really went for it... I am still a bit paranoid and worried about my teeth, but in a one step exercise like that it wasn't really hard to step and block. I just told her to go easier on the next partner when we were supposed to change.... Her punches were of course, really nice, though :)
    - In the meantime, the around 20 student were stopping the training to do the exercises, some waited too long, so we made a few minutes at the end of the training to finish. It was all mostly about push-ups and squats, some sit-ups, once V-ups and burpees, a few belly exercises I don't know the names of. And as per suggestion of a proactive guy who apparently enjoyed himself, we finished with once more set of 10 Neko Undo ... well, to be honest, most of the people probably only watched by now, though I encouraged them to do at least push-ups.

I actually the class went quite well, we did hopefully waste their energy. Well, at the very least, I wasted mine :D

I went to pick something at my parents' house after than and after watching me for a while, I actually went back with some medicine, cough drops, fruit and a repeated advise to go to bed and stop training for a while. :D Well, that's easier said than done, though  In the meantime it has gotten rather late, though, so I think I'm going to heed their first advise at the very least ^^ Good night everyone :)

So, basically I was still not feeling well and not getting better for the past few days, so I decided to miss Thursday training to be fit for CrossFit on Friday. Which, of course, didn't happen. I am just coughing more, feel more sluggish and the pinching pain in my butt when moving the right leg came back and doesn't give up for several days now
I originally planned karate trainings Monday to Thursday, CrossFit on Friday and a dojo day on Sunday. Well, Friday evening I fell like having a higher temperature and not in a state to endure a training when sensei wanted to give it his all in a preparation for a next-week seminar inthe UK he's attending. It may have well been my first dojo day missed :( I heard it wasn't as exhausting as sensei planned, probably, but they exercised for six hours, which probably wouldn't help me getting better, either.
This weeks there are spring holidays in schools and senseis are taking break from trainings, so so am I for the meantime. Trying to get better while I can. I am already coughing for a month or so and although I wouldn't call it terrible as my parents do (they probably have no idea what a really bad cough is), it is not getting better at all. Oh well, I am just rambling about nothing, but I am getting annoyed already :D

...kobudo was cancelled as well as one student couldn't come and I probably wouldn't have time... meaning two thirds of class missing - it just wasn't worth it. And there goes my week with trainings planned with no rest days :D

    Wednesday 15.3.17:

Sensei was teaching at the faculty today and I thought I may give it a try. Not that I felt all too healthy, but after yesterday's ungly cough, today was much better. And sensei inquired about my presence int he morning and told me I can assist and not exercise too much if I don't feel like it. And I just couldn't resist then :D

18:00-19:30 - Beginner class at uni:
    - 10 min warm-up: start each minute with 1, then 2, 3... up to 10 burpees (without the push-up, so an easier version), then practise tsuki for the rest of the minute - quite slowly. It didn't feel like a terrible exercise, but I could feel I am not too well about in the middle.
    - Junbi Undo - with quite a bit of knee strikes in the middle and finished with 10 neko undo and some belly exercises that I normally can do with quite a good fast pace and a good energy, but today I had to take breaks and was fairly sluggish and weak. Any explossive strenght went out the roof. We also did a Sanchin breathing exercise (though a faster paced). My posture today was very sluggish, but when I noticed sensei slip behind me, I worked on it just in time to get some leg testing. He then proceeded to all the men, letting the girls be.
    - I wasn't feeling well and sensei obviously saw. There was a friend form the dojo today too - same one with whom we did this class last week. We made a group with sensei when he announced to make groups of three. He also wanted to let me rest and help correct other people. Therefore we "only" showed the exercises to come. A pendulum - easy one, then the three person work-out when forst person lies on the back, second person does push-ups on his belly, while having his legs held up (in a horizontal position) by the third person who does sumo squats when the push-uper goes down. I was given the push-up position. The best considering I was the smallest in the group, but generally the most difficult one. I tried the push-ups on knuckles, which isn't easy on someone's stomach - without a firm ground. Sensei, while holding my legs told me to also show the easier version, when the psuh-ups are done on the floor, each hand on each side of the lying person. It was basically impossible to put my hands down one by one and I don't know what I was thinking, but I tried to jump down with them both and the same time, while changing the landing position fro knuckles to palms. Well, as one could expect if one was actually thinking, I didn't change the landing position, my wrists gave in and a fell face first on the person below me :D Well, luckily it was a laughing matter for everyone involved or watching :D
    - Then we attempted a synchronized group whatever - middle person lies down and rolls to the side. On the sides are people in push-ups position and when the middle person roold against you you jump over him in that position, lie down after landing and roll in an opposite direction. I think we didn't do this more than a couple of times previously, but we managed. And it was really fun to watch the other groups then XD
    - After we practised age, yoko and harai uke and that was it. I also was asked to show how the harai uke can be used as a strike on sensei. And... I hit... his groin. Just slightly, but I was feeling kind of bad and wandered if anyone saw. It wasn't too strong luckily as sensei had a poker face and kept talking. Well, I went to appologize afterwards

The second half of the training was better for me, but I still felt like I have no strenght anywhere. Guess I will still skip tommorrow's sensei-less training...

Earlier this week my kobudo teacher messaged me he's having a trial lesson at "my" CrossFit place. I picked him up at the tram and showed him in. He was late so I sent him to the changing rooms, finding him a couch, taking the opportunity to try and ask about sort of "postponing" my membership since I wasn't feeling well. Hopefully it will work. Anyway, sensei liked it and apparently I'll be seeing him around! :)

On Thursday, although int he end there was senesi leading the class, I decided I am still not too well.

    Saturday 18.3.17:

    9:45-12:30 - Kobudo:
    - We started with Nunhcaku kihon kata before sensei arrive from his nightshift. Then he went through it with us, clarifying some more thing, eventually trying to teach us the right timing of the kata. There is a lot of work to be done, there.
    - Not all of us had sai, so we spent the rest of the training with bo, which wasn't bad, either. We went through bo hojo undo ichi, kimubo and hojo undo ni.
    - I am struggling to remember if there was something more. Probably not. Sensei also taught us some principles about fighting with the staff or using it in general. We also did an exercise to vary the hojo undo ichi - different was of changing the grips.

EDIT: And I forgot that we also tried a technique with the stuff where you use it to throw dirt into an opponents eyes (suna kake I think?). We had no dirt, so sensei picked a foot protector and before I knew it, it flew over me, only touching the top of my head because I instinctively dodged. Otherwise, I have to leave it to sensei, his aim was very precise - straight into my face

We then went to a lunch and a few kms walk.
