If not already on my fb and insta. It didnt go my way in the competition. I gave a hearty performance, I got my takedowns and throws but it wasn't meant to be.

However. Most interestingly was my weight.

As previously mentioned I wasn't too worried about my weight as I hovered around 88-89kg for a 91.5kg weight class. But I kept it safe just in case.
I woke up feeling bloated and a bit worried but I made way to the event to cheer on my team mates.

I found the weigh in room but was denied an early check. So i carried on being team cheerleader.

When I went back at the appointed time, the scale master said "Youre good to go". Curiously I asked, what is my current weight?

She obliged and tapped the little scale...and again...and again. Then reset the scales...it turned out my cut went a bit too far.

"You're 85kg!" She said. "You couldve competed in the lower category which was 85.5"

"Well, you wouldnt let me weigh early".

We both chuckled and I awaited my impending doom....as I also wonder how I lost 10kg in 2 weeks..

Anyway. Long story short. Stay at 85kg or go back to around 95kg?

If you can make 85kg in that time frame, then definitely go for it next time!

How did you feel? If you feel significantly drained in competition compared to normal then maybe reassess, but at that much loss it sounds like it could make the 85kg category.

My excuse for not staying at 85 is ...um...food.

I did do some silly things in the 2 weeks, dropped my kcal intake down to about 1000-1200 (mostly guesswork).

I think significantly I immediately dropped off heavy carbs (potatoes, white rice, pasta, bread).
Protein wise it was a lot of pre marinated grilled or ovened meat. And had zero soft drinks. In fact, all I had was water or extremely diluted juice.

Trained as normal but added in extra cardio in a sweater and/or hoody.

Its been a while since I been within 85. And it wasnt easy...life without cake and at my age its difficult.

I'll be honest, I felt good but did feel a lot more tired after 5mins than I usually do. Not sure of that was simply an adrenaline dump or a bit of excitement.

Anyway. 2 months till I got another one :)

Prolly lower carbs and total kcal, actually. Less glycogen available for use and such.

Those not following my social media. Couple of weeks ago, I may have torn my right knee again.

After a week of sitting and doing nothing, the swelling significantly went down and I was able to walk normally again. Follow up appointment, the Dr basically said I seem fine, however do an MRi just in case, as apparently my strong legs could be masking an injury.
And go home and rest more.

So I did exactly that...and went to the gym. And flat benched 100kg x2.
    It's been a while since I broke the 100s.
I'm going to drop back down to 80-90 and go from there.

I now have a plan to superset workouts every other week. Alongside BJJ training which has pretty now much become my sole MA at this time.

Is all good thanks. I've literally gone from wearing a cricket bat splint to keep my leg straight to pretty much fully functional.
I actually gone back to BJJ, obviously being careful on it, but it felt fine.
Even sparred starting on standing.. bit achey but not real pain.

It has actually made me think of re-applying for comps coming up for the next couple of months. :p

Hasn't been a good few months for me.

Slipped and possibly tore my ACL again on the dodge knee. Couple weeks of rest, I was able to train.
Then, during some sparring to help team mates, I may have torn some ligaments in my wrist. (went pop pop and know I can't do push ups due to the pressure causing pain). And a week later, I got a cold, which then turned out to be bronchitis.
I have been on anti-biotics and an inhaler for the lungs.

I haven't trained at all for a month. I can visibly see my fat/muscle ratio switching sides. I feel sluggish and slow.
I would wake up positive, but as the day goes by, I would become more "ill" and my energy and motivation levels would drop drastically.
I was supposed to compete 3x in the last 3 months but had to cancel them all. It was going to be my most active time ever.
A friend of mine who is a wrestling judge, offered to let me be a Judge's table assistant, but due to my bronchitis, I didn't want to give the chance to infect anyone.

Even the owner of the weightlifting gym, has been asking for my whereabouts.

I am aware that maybe this is the best for me at the time.. nothing but rest and let the body heal.

3 weeks after popping the wrist and my grip strength is back, but there is still pain, deep within the wrist when pressure is applied.
And if I watch a comedy, I end up with a sore chest from the coughs, caused by the laughing.

    So. The plan.

I should be clear by December. The injuries, I will work around, like I have done with all the others.
Clean eating as well, with the exception of Xmas and New Years, due to work. They will be my cheat days.
And get back into competing around Feb. Back down to 85kg I think for me.

    Ouch :(

I would recommend doing some straight-up bodybuilding type training for a while, avoiding joint and ligament stress while helping build stability and such.

Couple of weeks ago, when my lungs were a bit more clear. I literally walked around the gym, trying out various machines, db, benches etc and just experimenting what I can do.

Calf raises, leg press and a deltoid machine where I use my elbows to lift the weights became pretty much it.
Can't push or pull, as it'll hurt the wrist. No cardio, as it'll make me cough.

I had nightmares that I would be benching 80kg. cough, then the bar land on my face or pop an elbow.

If your training grappling, the hamstring kickback cable machines and to a lesser extent the leg extention machines, are excellent non grippy prehab.

    My legs will be huuuuuuuuge!

(Now read that in the voice of Trump)

Good thing about my gym is that the owner is obsessed with legs. He literally has a calf day (which certifies him as a psycho). But his calf looks like a rugby ball attached to a ankle.

I will try and post a picture of a standing single leg ext machine he has. Its stupidly complex looking.

    you've been through the wars!!
Bronchitis sucks :( I usually get it about 4 times a year and once it became pneumonia because I didn't rest enough (also was on 8 hour flights)

And for me It always hits after a nasty injury, body can only cope with so much these days.
Be cautious on how you ease back into things, I used to get (and still do) the itch to get back into things whilst on the mend and do too much too quick when my CNS isn't ready to deal with it.

Antibiotics should sort you out, my extras that help clear it quicker: avoid air con, do a daily steam of your head for 5-10 minutes- (boiling water with towel over your head).
