Mir vs JDS

Mushroom De-powered to come back better than before.

    Ubereem out!
    Mir in!

Overeem has yet to put his application for licence as of yet, but if rejected he will be unable to get another for Nevada a whole year.

Although he states he has a water tighter alibi for his *ahem* high level of testosterone, UFC top brass doesnt want to risk it.

    What do you guys think?

Will Mir get over powered with the flurry of punches? or will JDS suffer the same fate of his mentor (Minatouro) and possibly get an arm/leg snapped?

JDS is going to smash Mir in the standup: first round KO.

Love Mir, happy he got the shot, but he's going to get destroyed. JDS standup is way beyond Mir's and his defensive wrestling is great. Unless he's as stupid as Nog and decides to try and show off by getting a sub instead of pounding him out, which I tihnk we can safely say is unlikely, then Mir won't win this. If he does though I'll be a very happy Southpaw.

I'm worried about that too. If he had, say, three months to prep for this fight, I'd say Mir could do it. He wants that belt back, and he is gifted, and his ground game is probably the best in the heavyweight division right now.

But I agree with everyone else: Junior's striking game is way beyond Frank's. I don't see Frank rising to that level with only a month to train. I see him getting knocked out before he can make it a ground game.

All that being said I'm struggling now to remember seeing JDS stuff many takedowns. The only fights of his I really remember are Cain's (obviously no shot) and Carwin's where I think he faked a shot at the start and then got his face turned into a burger. Frank's wrestling isn't exactly stellar and he'd still have to deal with the striking problems but its potentially a small bit of hope I can cling to.

Course the bright side to this is JDS is an awesome guy so I'm not going to feel that bad if he wins.

Frank Mir's wrestling isn't stellar? What? Who in that weight class is better?
(I'm equating "wrestling" and "BJJ" here, so don't go all semantics on me.)

This could be an interesting fight. I haven't heard of Frank Mir doing anything much lately to earn himself a shot at the title.

I respect Mir but I would lean towards Junior on this one.

This is what he did in December 2011. Nog should have left it standing game. He was getting the better of it when they were on their feet.

All righty then, must have missed that one. He's got my vote. I still think Junior will get the better of him though.

Mir's a shadow of his former self (not suprising considering what he's been through). JDS is so far ahead of him it's not even a contest in my view. Nog looked like crap in that fight too.

Mir is one of those fighters you cannot simply write off, because soon as you do he either snaps someone's arm or knocks them out.

As long as Mir is on his game and has his luck this fight it could be a great one.

Or JDS is going to tag Mir into oblivion. Mir better play it smart and not test out his newly developed striking.

I like both fighters and I think it has the potential of being a great fight.
