That sensation you're talking about is Chi/Qi. I feel it more too when I've been meditating. I guess we just don't notice it when lots of things are going on normally.

I think Qi Gong is a form of exersize that combines with breathing and meditation.

I have a book on qigong by Michael Tse and it sounds like it really works, and helps you feel qi, it's apparently better then tai chi

Yeah, I saw one guy the other day on YouTube, he was like 94 years old and still walking around fine and training in Martial Arts. He was a Chinese guy I think.

I have no idea about meditating in baths. I haven't had one in 20 years or more. Dirty things. You should shower.

Yes, I usually feel more relaxed after meditating. It's normal and common. You're basically getting some chill out time. You're ignoring all the little thoughts that are running around you're brain and disconnecting from the world for a while.

I personally would ignore anything to do with meditation and deveoping chi or opening energy channels.

I don't have much formal training in meditation, but I don't buy into the whole chi/qi bit very much. If it helps you to focus better during the meditation then it's worth it, but there are scientific explanations that explain in a more legitimate way what is actually going on. The chi stuff can get a bit too mystical and mysterious for my taste, kind of like grand masters who can never be beaten.

When I'm successful at normal meditation I usually come out of it feeling very relaxed and in tune with my surroundings. I focus on breathing deep into my belly, then allowing my body to relax more and more with each exhale. I usually find that I'm extremely tense in areas I wasn't aware of, and when I've reached the point of complete relaxation I usually quit. This takes about 2-3 minutes if I'm able to be spot on with my level of focus.

There are different types of meditation as well. One of the things I've been experimenting with is called "mindful meditation" where you're pretty much doing the exact opposite of what people think meditation is for. You don't ignore any thought, emotion, or physical stimulus but embrace it and try to draw it into your breath. The end result is still a calm and thoughtless mind, the route there is a different approach. I've found this kind of meditation to be mentally exhausting as acknowledging everything and not letting anything pass by can be strenuous. It does help me with coping with certain things throughout the day that if I ignored would manifest itself into anxiety.

As far as the healing bit goes, being relaxed and calm and in a good mindset is vital to any injury honestly. Meditation can assist you in reaching a good mental attitude, it's not going to be the reason a broken leg or torn ligament heals though.

in indian philosophy, chi is called prana ... life force. There is also an energy called kundalini energy which rises up the spine from the base to the crown...i guess its just different terms relating to the same thing.

during my longer sessions of meditation...once my mind has stopped wondering in a million directions..i can definately feel bursts of tingles...through my body...rising up my spine and exploding in the heart area..often my head jolts back (have been told these involuntary movements occur when the energy hits a blockage and attempts to clear it)

I have had an experience where both my hands have felt like they were on fire...and on this occasion(only on this occasion) i was able to with my mind, move this burning sensation from hand to hand.

i have been meditating for 2 years now...almost everyday...and to me it is obvious that awareness of this energy occurs when the mind quietens...and you become aware of something that is always there, but you're attention is always elsewhere...

also, i find if my Ego is inflated when telling someone about this...or feeling 'special' in some way due to feeling it...i lose contact with it...so i guess the Ego is counterproductive when learning to focus on this energy...

therefore if you want to become aware of Chi for wanting to be superhuman, to show off or be better than everyone...you probably won;t have much luck...

I never really have a quiet house so do you think earplugs would be ok or would they harm or whatever is the best way to put it?
I don't think I have a big ego to be honest as I don't have alot I confidence

I am going to try and meditate properly when I get the chance and see if anything happens, I have started doing it lying down at night when I'm trying to sleep by lying flat on my back hands either side

I found disconnecting the idea of:

Having a big ego = Confidence

Is a good way to gain confidence.

People with big egos aren't any more confident, they just have different values, they're just different. For me, it was the belief that I had little confidence that made me lack confidence. As soon as I realized that variety is more important I became much more confident and I could express myself more happily.

People didn't like it when I did meditation though, so now I just don't talk about it normally - but it helps me to remember where my happiness is.

    lol

It's good but no-one understands it. Don't feel bad if people think it's pointless or useless.

Do not confuse Ego with confidence...a person can be full of confidence and be extremely humble...even though they are capable of a lot, they think of themselves as just normal and 'equal' to everyone else...

if you are low in confidence, there is one thing mediation (if done with humbleness, and good intentions daily)will do, which it did for me, is you will ooze in confidence because you will 'know' there is a lot more to you than your mind (and your surroundings) have you believe. it will also reduce your fear of death, and fear of anything to be honest.

i started off by lying down before sleep, until i drifted off to sleep...and sometimes in the morning..earplugs may help you if the house is noisy...
you can sit on a chair also, or on the couch...whatever is comfortable

you are basically trying to 'shut' out the outer senses for a small amount of time a day to just 'Be' ... to just relax, and become aware of the goings on in your body...

The biggest hurdle is your own mind...if you do this daily you will start to witness the crazy mind and it's countless wayward thoughts...learn to let them pass by, and return to relaxing...

some people pick a word to repeat in their mind...so that they have a single thing to focus on (usually a positive word like 'peace') so that the mind is kept occupied) so that you can relax and become aware of your potential.

when i practice my tai chi form...it is a similar thing with that...when you are 100% focussed on the form and movement, you are keeping your mind focussed and not wondering...a moving meditation.

also, have patience...old habits die hard...thought patterns we have built throughout our lives take a while to break out of...fears, anxieties etc etc...so don;t give up if you think your are not getting anywhere. start with 5-10 mins..and slowly build up...

my longest sessions now are around 2 hours usually between the hours of 2am and 6am to take advantage of the quietness and still atmosphere. it has taken me quite some time to be able to sit in meditation that long...but its worth the effort.

I think I have to explain what I mean by ego, so it doesn't confuse things because I think you and I are talking about different things Chaz.

To me ego means personality. Someone who has a big ego is just someone outgoing or extraverted (which is often percieved as confidence).

Your sentiment I believe is correct though, just because someone is outgoing and confident doesn't mean they are self-centered, they often make good friends for a quiet person too. When I was quiet and a little introverted, I had many extroverted and outgoing friends. I was happy that they would accept me anyway. When I became more accepting of myself I also became more outgoing and I was delighted that they still accepted me as a friend. Because I thought that they might not like me anymore.

Oh, the other thing was I don't confuse confidence with humility, the loadest most confident person can be humble, or not. Someones level on the introvert/extrovert scale it means nothing in that regards.
