This thread has gone outrageously off topic!

What started off as a piece about Lau Gar terms has spirited away off into the land of Chi. Let's get back on topic or I'll be forced to close this thread and split it. You don't want me to do that as I'll only mess it up...

sir! sir! they started it! it wasn't me!!

(I'm happy to debate this "chi" nonsense in another thread though if you want to split this one?)

okay back on track then, reading through the terms i noticed that the set jorn sau was refered to as centre as well as post, now this might not have anything to do with it but one of my books refers to a set from wing chun that is very like jorn sau that is designed to find yoru centre line, it said that before people had access to mirrors a post would be placed stading upright and the practictioner would carefully posistion themselves so the post was directly infrom of them running there centre line so they could practice punching directly out of their centre line

i know its a bit of a long shot but maybe someone knows more and can shed a little more light on it,

oh and about that bit on mind body and kick ass moves where the bloke sucks up his unmentionables, i'm not too far from doing that myself lol but i can't say it is something i practice all too often, but if i ever get there it could come in handy

Have you been living under a rock for the last 15years?
Jurn Sau is remarkably (some would say suspiciously) like Siu Nim Tao, the first wing chun form.

@ Blind fist the form is Sil Lum Tao, which means little idea

if you care to watch this you'll see the questionable similarities!!!

Great back on topic, as for wing chun like i have mentioned before a Lau practioner may have been influenced by the system.

Now don't quote me on this however Yau Luk Sau trained with two masters, the second had studied some wing chun. I have heard this mentioned before i might have misunderstood it i don't know however most likely it is (jorn sau) apart of the evolution of Lau.

Besides, Lau Gar as other kung fu systems stresses the centre line, both protection of and attacking.

who told you about one of the master training in some wing chun? I have never heard this!!

Again, what's the source? I've never heard that. In fact, I've never heard anything Yau Luk Sau's masters other than what is said in the BKFA history sections of the websites - ie flip all.

Yes, lots of kungfu systems stress the centre line - but none of the others nick a form from wing chun to make the point!

is lau gar the only system to have a set like jorn sau or as we seem to be calling it now, sil lum tao, i'm not disputing (as i do not know) the possibility that lau gar may have adopted the system as part of its training but apart from teh way they stand the centreing and the odd oetehr move it doesn't look very much like it unless you really know what you are looking for, jorn sau has teh hole section at the end with the rurns, sil lum tao if anythign has loads fo stuff not in jorn sau, i think if you combine jorn sau with the double arm blocks of charp choi you are getting closer.

maybe it is taken from it and split up amongst the sets, like i said i am not disputing just putting ideas out there and asking questions.

The only two styles i've ever seen a jurn sao type set in are Lau Gar, and Wing Chun.

As for the turns at the end of Jurn Sao not being in the Wing Chun form: They were added my Jeremy Yau in the 80's - so the original jurn sao really did look like Sil Lum Tao

I really think Chimpcheng should split this thread from page 5 onwards.

I thought that Jorn Sau does indeed seem quite similar to the Wing Chun first form - at least some of the hand shapes are the same. But from the one clear video clip that I have seen, it doesn't seem to focus on developing the elbow energy that is the signature of Wing Chun, nor is the elbow positioning developed.

In other words, it looks like a WC/VT form but doesn't fulfill the developmental ideas to support the Wing Chun tools. I would have to ask how Jorn Sau, one of the UKLG foundation forms(?), supports the development of Lau Gar specific approach to fighting.

If you look at Wing Chun's 2nd form (Chum Kiu), alot of the hand shapes are repeated from the first form but with pivoting and stepping. You can see the progression.

The official reasoning behind Jorn Sau seems to be that it's all about dynamic tension and breathing while striking. My sifu has hinted there are quite a few chin na applications as well. I have the old BKFA Lau Gar DVD syllabus on DVD upto green sash & at the end of the form I'm sure Master Yau goes through some applications which can be taken from it. I'll have a look later tonight.

Awwww man, you were doing so well as well. You managed to bring it back on topic - Lau Gar terms - and then went way, way, WAY off topic again.

This thread is locked until further notice.

    Sadness...

    Focus on a topic,,,, fine
Removing posts from a thread instead of merging them onto an existing or new thread,,,,,not so good.

    Promote discussion, don't destroy it!

I'll think you'll find that your completely off topic posts are merged with the discussion thread - the link, of which, was clearly posted.

Here is the link again, this time it's spelt out for you instead of hyperlinked.

Oh dear me! What's this?? My ability to read and do the most basic of searching reveals that the removed posts are right there in the Lau Gar discussion you were linked to!!!

    SHOCKING!

Next time reading the links and searching can save your forum skin. ;)

    Feel free to apologise.

    Are you moderating or point-scoring?

Responding to off-topic posts while no moderator was present is due such scorn?

Methinks your ego exceeds your position on this forum!

No doubt you are exempt from apology.

Oh very well done and ever so witty.

You get caught out accusing me of deleting posts which are clearly available in the link to the Lau Gar Discussion topic and now it appears that you're desperately trying to save face.

Funny how no one else had the same problem...

Now, if we're done and we've both grown up a little (I can admit when I've been over zealous), let's get this on topic. I'm sure you're just as keen as everyone else to get this back on track as I'm sure that you will have plenty to say on Lau Gar. Together we can over come our differences and this unpleasantness and go fishing or scrumping. :)
