Guess who's back in the fight game! :D

As part of support for my University Kickboxing team, my gym is organising an amateur show for them to get some competitive experience and build some people for SnA, the local big fight show my previous mma matches were on.

I'm being put in at semi-pro thanks to mma (which is terrifying) and this will be my first experience fighting under a striking-only ruleset. Previous interclubs were all at sparring contact at best so this is quite a jump!

But the idea is it will develop my striking and, most importantly, force me to solve some of my mental problems with fighting where I shy away from pressure. Has been hard to fix in mma since the comfort of knowing I can shoot and cuddle someone stopped me learning. So the new plan is to throw myself straight in the furnace and learn under fire.

Sooo with all that said, if anyone fancies coming to Portsmouth to watch that (and support my ticket sales :p) drop me a PM. Happy to put people up for the night as well, and there's an after party watching UFC London.

Just as an extra thing, I have landed a head kick on someone's jaw every fight I've had. I have no intention of that trend stopping now :p

Aaron, work is still up and down, but I'll try and make it.

I'll confirm in the new year.

I'm happy to come down and work with you again if you wish.

Exiting! How is training going so far?

And what ruleset will the competition be in?

Pretty fantastically thank you mate. I messed up guessing my weight instead of weighing myself because I'm a moron so I've got a strict few weeks coming up with my diet, but training itself has been great. Massively stepped it up just before christmas and felt good both mentally and physically so happy days there. Think fight camp for all of us gets into full swing week after next once term time starts again (this is a show for the university society after all) and I've never fought under this coach before so I'm very interested to see how its going to go.

Except I know there will be more cardio than I've ever done. Boo cardio.

The other cool thing about this that isn't really fight prep for me, is that because this show is for the society and is mainly made up of people who only really started training in September and have never competed before, I'm comfortable enough in my experience compared to theirs to help out. Normally I'm very wary about offering people advice or shouting at people sparring, but I'm happy doing it here and so far its been a good experience.

Standard K1 rules minus knees to the head, and with shinnies. Think the fight is 3x2 minutes.

Guesstimating is never good, but you have plenty time left so hitting your weight shouldn't be too hard methinks. :) Nice too see that you're feeling good about your training, I have a feeling you'll do well ;)

    Shinnies = shin guards?

Eh, I cut the same amount of weight in a week for my last fight and it was easy enough. Can definitely do it over two months. But cutting to weigh in on the day instead of the day before is going to make it a different challenge. Can definitely do it, but it'll be something different.

    Yep, my bad.

Cheers Simon - I was just about to search for this thread, but you saved me the effort.

Best of luck Aaron, looking forward to hearing good things later.

I completely forgot I made this thread. Thank you guys but my fight was pulled last week to allow me to have dental work done yesterday that frees me up to fight on our big mma show in April instead. I also had my opponent pull out last week and finding a replacement was proving painful
