Pigeon Pigeon Pigeon Pigeon <- CAT I think that the great problem with looking at different styles of kata is that whilst it may be visually interesting it is pretty meaningless from a practical point of view. Unless you have studied the various styles represented, there is no way of knowing either the intent or the application of the kata. I might be doing Naihanchi because in 'my' style it's a simple to learn basic kata that teaches some simple moves OR I might be doing Naihanchi because in 'my' style it's an advanced kata teaching highly sophisticated concepts. (And yes I have met people from both of those camps). That is not to say that I don't like this thread and it certainly is good that it has been made sticky. Perhaps some of the more senior members of this forum could post their own versions of specific kata along with some explanation of what the kata is teaching in their style?
Along the general theme of comparing Karate styles, this may be interesting. I hate wikipedia, but this is still rather interesting to me. Related tie in here. I didn't feel like adding unneeded threads.
