What do you think of this program? I watched the movie and I'm not sure how much faith I have in scoopkicks and ear slaps. Yes they'll work if you actually manage one, but it's not like you can practice them and be able to rely on using one in a fight...

Good way of stealing from a supermarket though.

Their instructor course is two days long.

Yeah, I don't think the rapists of the world will lose too much sleep over this programme.

I'm for anything that teaches self protection skills and if these kind of programmes stuck to the practice of not getting into trouble in the first place, then I'd be all for them, but I've never seen a women's self defence class that I didn't think would put a woman in greater danger, were she ever to try to apply what she has learned.

In fairness they do emphasize watching out for danger and staying away from it in the first place...it's the techniques I find dodgy. You can't exactly practice timing and landing an earslap that would possibly drive air into the ear and rupture the membrane, so how are you going to rely on it in a fight?

Watching the video, the techniques are...well...yeah. Pretty standard fare. I'm sure they work great when you know exactly what's coming, against an opponent who stands still and doesn't flinch when struck.

The ATM scene was particularly galling - in the successful kidnap scene, the bad guy wraps his arms around the girl, immobilising her arms. In the ass kicking Buffy scene, he puts his hands around her neck allowing her to turn and strike him.

Well I was always told you should shout fire rather than help. People will avoid helping in case they get in trouble themselves...but will come if you yell fire because they love to watch things burn lol.

Is it the same people conducting the training in this video?

I've been to similar training workshops sponsered by businesses and schools working with the local police. They focus a lot on awareness and preparation.

I believe it is like planting a seed. Once people are exposed, it can be like opening their eyes and then they are changed for life.
