Mmmm. And you know so much about me too huh!, If you did you would know full well I dont teach JKD Seminars. I dont feel the need to and my trigger finger is on a hairline trigger and my aim is sharp as a blade Its the old 'If you dont do it the way we do it its not blah blah blah' well quite frankly you can keep your 'we do it exactly like Bruce blah blah blah' simply because of one important factor. I know what I do works efficiently and effectively because I have used it countless times and I know it has and does work for my students too because they too have used it countless times. So I dont really care if you think i'm doing it wrong or not because even if I am, I must be doing something right because it has worked for me countless times, can you say the same???? The only time your so called complicated 3 point landing snapping wrist straight lead is wrong is when it misses and you get knocked out. Now if my foot lands before, after, during or whether I have one, two, three or even twenty three point landings is actually immaterial as long as it gets the desired results of which it does. After all it is only a punch. I'm sure I heard that somewhere before? Mmmm! Dam cant think where? The thing that makes me laugh is, you guys are comming on here trying to preach to the converted. And like I said to your good buddy, you dont actually know me or what I do otherwise you would not pigeon hole me and try to put me in one of your so called groups you obviously have a dislike for. But then you are not asking me the right questions to actually know what I am about are you?
Don't worry mate I've already trained with some of his students and spoke with others who have trained with him as well so I kind of have an idea. Its not JKD at all.
Whom are you referring to? As I previously identified cogency is not a strong point of yours so it is worth clarifying
Mate all this is just talk. How special is the Straight lead? only you can determine that through hard work and dedication. you yourself admit that %70 of the shot is in how you pull the trigger. So practice it 10 thousand times at least with correct form then on hanging paper then with focus pads with some one trying to make you miss it, then on a moving opponent ...than on a resisting opponent, then put in the variations with backfist, finger Jab against different angles. it takes about 100 to 150 thousand slow reps just to get the mechanics right No matter what you think of the punch now...its something that interests you so just pursue it and learn it from the best you can. Its the backbone of JKD and it is a knock out punch. Funakoshi stated that he only came to understand the Seiken Tzuki after decades of practicing it. why should it be different with the Straight Lead? Just like Traditional arts spend years mastering a form of 8 moves (Like the San Chin for example) Bruces art has a form too believe it or not!!! and that is just doing the Straight lead 500 times a day at least. Its not to improve your Punch only! It is to understand the art! Some successful fighters I know of also first thought it was just hype. Until they actually thought let me prove it and found out what a great punch it is. Jim Mccan is an MMA guy that Does 2000 rounds of full contact sparring a year and he will swear by the punch. Tommy Carruthers has a student over 60 who is hard as nails and has even killed viscous dog attacking him with one bare punch! So put the politics aside and start repping it. Good luck and that's all I have to say on this.
I assume you are reffering to me so who said I teach JKD openly? Like I said you dont know me. But what I do teach is and has been proven effective. And why dont I teach it openly and only to those who ask. Well my honest answer is I feel there are far more effective methods and systems. But does not mean I dont enjoy training it as it is what really started me off in the direction I chose. And it does not mean I am ignorant to what is and what is not JKD either? Which is why there are numerous JKD instructors who also come to train with me for my knowledge. Like I said your asking the wrong questions. Which is why I know you know nothing about me. So if you have trained with some of my students, name them. I am sure they wont mind and I know I wont either. Personaly I think your blowing smoke.
Since we have JKD guys reading this and it doesn't warrant a thread of its own, here is a picture on Bob Breen's facebook page of Dan Inosanto's first UK Seminar. I've posted the link rather than the picture because tags are added to each person. If you can't get the link to work I'll post the picture instead. https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.p...0268690459725.348213.732254724&type=1&theater
Haha, remember this one Pat? https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...44100338951263&set=t.732254724&type=3&theater
Look at my avatar, I was speaking literally. Trigger pull is a huge part of learning to shoot the rifle correctly. BTW that is a US Marine Corps rifle expert badge.
So what is the BEST straight lead? IMHO: Open hand strike to side of head... given versitility to attack the eyes if better target. Footwork can be lunge or drop step mechanics depending on situation and I like to add in torso and hip power.
Yep I sure do, "we where only taking pictures Bob no need to hit me properly" " Your not listening are you?" "Oh well they say pain is a good teacher". Funny he had the same attitude when he filmed his first JKD training video that I co starred in.
Teri tom's straight lead is actually two different punches in my opinion. There is the bruce lee/ jack dempsey/ jim driscoll lead and then there is teri tom's "star jump" lead.
