Not much to put here, question is in the title.

Loaded marches for anyone who doesnt know is a term used to mean marching with equipment.

So i have heard some stories of people getting their knees buggered while in the military as infnatry, and to a lesser extent some back/spine injuries and i was curiosu if any of you lot knew how to minimize that injury and more about it. Two reasons why i want to know, if i ever can join the military so i dont bugger my knees and i have a intrest in training using weight while running/walking to build up my carrying strength.

That would need actual training and not only talking about it.

If you're not in the military don't do loaded marches. Simple as that. It doesn't serve any useful function for a civilian other than messing up your joints, there are much more efficient and safer ways to improve your cardio or leg strength if that's what you're looking for.

If you are planning on joining the military there is still no need to practice them, just work on building up your leg/core strength and endurance as that will minimise the stress on your joints.

If/when you do have to do them, just make sure you pack your load correctly, if you feel then need to use things like bricks or plates as weight then wrap them up in towels and blankets.

There are civilian uses for it, if you need to travel soem distance with no vehicle you need a backpack, hiking, survavilism (lack of better word) just general fitness as well, you ave to lug aroudnw aht you need if you do a long distance walk after all.

Regards to the trainign that is contary to advice i have seen for training. (all i have to say in that regard)

I was looking at sandbags or water to fill a bag up with for training or as a comprimise get a weighted vest.

My problem is, it puts stress on joints and i dotn know the danger weights for it, im not stupid enough to start running with a 20kilo weight. Hopefully somone with medcial stats will show up. :p

Unless you have a solid foundation in fitness and cardio to begin with don't bother

Stick with normal, progressive training and that will serve you for when you need it for any of the aforementioned situations. A situation that places inherent lomg-term stress on the body is to be prpeared for not replicayed otherwise you are simply outtimg more stress on it for no good reason

    Which is pretty stupid

My best advice is train more, talk less

Do you even do marches without weight? I am under the impression you don't. I would say start with regular walking/ hiking without weights before even thinking about adding weights. And I mean doing that consistently first.

Nail. My family has bad knees though so hey ho.

I dont, nor did i give the impression i did, im asking out of intrest as i was curious if there was a trick or not to not bugger your body up after a long time of lugging weight on your back. (edit:) i do walk everywhere i go in town 9.5 times out of 10.

I dont need the basics so far back as to start small, i wouldnt slip on a bag thats 20kilos and start running. The only weight i would carry originally would be water and/or food. (and obviously my AKM)

So gist of what i got, dont do any long distance (or even short pending weight) walks/runs carring a decent amount of weight in a backpack if i value my knees and/or back?

    (thanks for replies anyway)

Sounds like your question should be,
How do I run, and then work from there.

I dont know if any of the running clubs around me do that.(actual "training" rather than just a group to run with) I can run but i look like, you know those females who do that weird arm thing? the male version of that. :p

Nails on my foot, its my great toe on the right side, i would have the problem on both feet but my left great toes nail keeps breaking off when it gets too long. (somehow)

Most running clubs have a beginner program or a "couch to 5k" thing

You can also try this method - Weck is a pretty incredible guy physically

Proper Running Techniques: Head Over Foot

    Logic suggests......

As H (from steps) said, most running clubs do a intro 0 to 5k thing.

So you do have a bad foot! Because the nail is part of your foot.

I understand we all have issues, and that a more serious issue does not negate a lesser one. But Nails? Really?

Sorry, but that just isn't a reason to not train, that is an excuse.

I have literally known fellow students who..........

    1. Broke her neck. Dr's said 99% of the people with her injury would be paralyzed. She kept begging the nurses to let her to TCC. She told me the Nurse's kept behind her ready to catch her as she did the 24 form in the hospital after getting vertebrae in her neck fused.

    2. Dialysis for kidney issues and various side effects. And then later, advances in science made it possible for his wife to donate a kidney. Both came back ASAP after the kidney transplant.

    3. Several with knee surgeries for blown out knees.

    4. And the student who is in a motorized wheelchair who gets up out of it in tournament to do modified forms with is one good arm.

I am sorry Rataca, but I just can't take that excuse seriously. Part of martial arts training is about strengthening the mind- martial spirit. Learning to push through difficulties. True recognizing when to back up from injuries is also important.

Nails that cause you issues because you don't maintain them after what I have seen around me- I have to be honest- it is just ridiculous to me.

But why don't you trim your nail when it gets to long so you can train?

I will google clubs in my area and look into that one.

Also i ahve tried nail clippers, it hurts and doesnt cut my nail, i have tried scissors, they hurt dont cut my nail past puttin g a annoying nick in it, i have also got what is the bes tthing out of superdrug for cutting nails, that nearly pulled the entire thing off because it was fragmented. Its the nail equal to a Tiger 2 tank!

I file them down anyway, i just dont have the patience to file it allt he way down. Its got a nick in it now and should be goen providing i keep at it over a few days within this month or the next month.

Its not a excuse, im just partaking in conversation. See above for details. Last time i went to TKD and they did free sparing, i just switched to doing it left footed because it wasnt trimmed enough to comfortable kick somone or do so without it breaking off or jabbing somone. Dont touch it, dont look at it. Its only recently made it difficult to walk and then i ahve filed it down some. I really am iffy with my nails on my feet.

Wont be for long i will remove the toe. XP

(should i just make a post on my nail so we can have a big discussion there? :p)

If you have a nail infection, go to your GP, if you don't, buy some decent clippers.

Your an adult I assume, this isn't difficult adulting stuff.
