So is there some kind of exodus going on. This used to be a very busy forum. Prior to me getting back to posting, is the hate on for indies still prevalent? Have been considering getting back in the game, had retired for some time. I had thought to get involved in a school but none here I am too impressed with in my area
Oshawa Ontario Canada There was at one time. I believe he has closed up. But frankly, I have some issues with the "norm" school. Theoretically
Sorry - don't know anyone out that way I understand the issue, there are a lot of folk who've not figured out how to make it work and unfortunately those that have tend to be the quieter ones... What's stopping you coming out of retirement? I always thought you had a lot of knowledge and probably if you could link up with a good instructor / Japan then you might find a way to make it work...Just a thought
I had a number of good "links" per se and had attended in Japan prior. Just over the years, seeing egos become what they did. The etiquette fall out of the bottom and quality control become a non issue. Frankly teaching, as well as learning to a degree was a bad marriage. Both had a lot of heartaches. But I feel the need to go back to it. I was a decent coach and I focused on upgrading my skills to offer. It is calling me back. I just have to figure out where and how I want to do it. Sadly there is about 2 martial artists that I trust and neither are close to me.
It's like that on most of the forums to discuss ninpo these days: martialartsplanet, martialtalk, kutaki, e-budo, etc. Pretty much all the good conversations happen on Facebook now, if you're friends with a wide variety of people. I check in here about once a week, but this is the only budo forum I frequent anymore.
Much as we'd like to make it easier, it seems that improvement in this art is a doing thing, rather than a reading/rational understanding thing. All the words in the world, Japanese or otherwise, don't seem to yield as much benefit as training with a good uke and teacher.
I've not even seen any of the far-out questions that new joiners used to post, or any spammers. Maybe Dunc is just to fast for them? Odd.
There are a few good groups on Facebook for the Takamatsuden arts, with a lot of very recent, very significant finds about the history of Togakure. But yeah, the forums are dying, mostly because of social media I guess.
Bummer. I am a moderate independent so not too welcome places such as that. But Takamatsuden background.
On my screen, the bottom of the first page in this forum has a last post date of April 11, 2017. One year and about 20 threads. Gambatte!
If everyone is one Facebook, whereabouts on Facebook? Forums do seem quieter, but I must have missed where all the Facebook discussions take place. Maybe I should ask Cambridge Analytica
