You know me and titles. Not too sure if this fits anywhere else, but i found this video advertising "sambo", dont know if its sambo or not. does anyone care to join and laugh at the problems in it and do a break down? Just have to comment about the first one though, how much does it look like he would have been the aggressor in that made up situation?
Very much typifies a certain flawed approach to multiple attackers training drills (and a common one). Standard dead training. Obviously bad.
Is it actually Sambo? It's a lot worse than the Sambo I've seen previously. Typical politely-waiting-in-turns-to-be-demolished-like-straw-men approach to multiple attacker demos. I love the guy in blue trousers waiting for the defender to notice him before gifting him a leg throw. Classic. Standard fare.
It comes to something when I can say the multi man stuff I've done at Aikido has more energy than that !
Combat Sambo - Mixed Style Sambo | Martial arts school It's these guys, usually sambo isn't taught with graded belt levels, but I think one judo guy in the UK, who also competed in sambo, set up his own "combatsombo" system with grades, so it's not never happened before.
Combat Disciplines : Oleg Sibilev Looks like he has something to do with that "Sombo" association. I was going to post Martin Clarkes sambo blog, but he's gone super right wing conspiracy theory insane so if you want to read it, you'll have to look for it yourself.
To be fair, that might of put me off the system completely if i didnt know thats not the model for it and was a schooling decision. So god help anyone who was looking at getting into sambo who knew a little bit about fighting and saw that video. Needless to say you knew what i was looking for at midnight. XP Does anyone on this forum do Sambo to get opinions off? it kind of like they took the good bits from sport and combat sambo and merged them using the worse bits for both.
There's very little sambo in the UK, and the majority of the "UK combat Sombo" stuff likes like reasonable old school judo mixed with bad everything else. Good sambo =
Sombo is Martin Clarkes term IIR - because of the archaic racial epithet use of "sambo" I trained with Matt Clempner and Steve Crutchley who were both Sambo players - in fact one of my friends Mahender Patel took bronze at the UK championships a few years ago The video doesnt look much like any sambo i have seen!
At about the 34 second mark, I love the use of a body slam against a stick wielder... followed by taking a kick to the back so you can do a handspring. That's golden. Not very impressed overall... looks more like the very beginning of a rehearsal for a demo or something... nothing I'd put out there to promote the art.
Ya, that kick to a roll to a handspring thing made me think of guys practicing for movie-fu choreography. That's not "bad" -- I love m.a. movies. But it's not sambo/sombo, either.
I tell you what, i jsut rewatched it up to that mark and noticed they mainly use kicks, i think this would be perfect vs TKD and Capiorella fighters. Its funny when i may constitute the demographic they are aiming for in that that ad i put it here to make fun of it.
Rataca100, my suggestion to you would be to worry more about your own training than be into laughing at what others are doing. Just my perspective.
The only thing i need to worry about is TKD people trying to sell it higher than it actually is. That type of ad is too silly not to share though.
I realise this is an old thread but I wanted to clear up some questions here. Yes, this school is legit. They routinely medal in British sambo competitions and the coach in the video has competed in the world masters Thought I should clear up any question that may be about the gym - as this thread intentional or not makes the school appear as though it isn't legit.
