Dealing with trauma right now.

    AndrewTheAndroid A hero for fun.

Not the physical type either. I've been sick to my stomach and had a headache pretty much all week because of a deeply disturbing image and link someone posted in a meme group that I'm part of. I won't get into the specifics of what it was about because I'm still processing it and I'm not sure if it is even appropriate to talk about on this family friendly site.

I seriously considered calling the police on this individual. That's how illegal and immoral this picture was. I reported it to Facebook and blocked the user.

I haven't been to training all week(actually two weeks because I had the cold the previous week), my eating is not good and I can't get to sleep.

It's getting a bit better day by day, but I need to get back on track. I think I will go to the gym tomorrow and lift some weights just to get back in the habit of going. Maybe a few rounds wailing on the punching bag make me feel better. I might also call my therapist tomorrow to talk about what happened.

If it's that bad then call the police.

We teach that if you see something then you should report it, because if you don't then it's very possible the person goes on to do it to someone else.

A few weeks ago there was an altercation in the street. Probably just some drink related issue, but I reported it.

My daughter thought it was an over reaction, but as I told her if someone had got stabbed and I could have stopped it how would I have felt.

Here's a phrase I like, "the guilt isn't yours to own."

In retrospect I should have but I was not thinking clearly. I just hope Facebook passes the report along to someone that can do something. I have no idea how to find the person that did this.

The report will be logged, so the police will (and have in the past) be able trace the individual through that.

As the saying goes 'better to be safe than sorry' - If this was just a case of one persons (very) tasteless sense of humour, than maybe a shot across his/her bow will force them to give themselves a much needed character X-ray, before sharing something so offensive again in the future. Alternatively though, if it turns out to be something a little 'more' than just offensive content, then you will feel much better knowing that you spoke up in time.

The fact that the content bothered you so much speaks volumes about you, but allowing things to eat away at you can be the downside of compassion, so on that note, I hope that both your therapist, and your heavy-bag can help.

In case it wasn't clear in my above post (as I just realised that never out right stated it) but do...

    ...Call the Police!

Thanks for the kind words. Next time I will give them a call.

If I may suggest, and apologies if this is overstepping, but call the police THIS time! It is not to late, let them know that it was reported, the nature of the content, and also how it made you feel - You'll thank yourself for doing this.

I would but I don't have anything to tell them. I don't remember the name of the person who committed the crime and Facebook already took the post down.

If you've blocked them, they're name should appear on the blocked list......

I just checked all the names on my blocked list and report notification but nothing came up.

A lot of people reported the post quickly so maybe it didn't go through?

If they received a FB ban, even a temporary one, they wouldn't show up on you banned user list, so unless it was a permaban, I'd expect to be able to see their name a few days (to a week)

God damn. There are very few things I could imagine seeing so offensive and disturbing that I stopped eating. If it was that serious I'd report it to the police.

Something that helped me process disturbing mental trauma in the past was writing my thoughts down on paper as soon as I woke up. Pen and notepad, not typed. Try to fill in at least one sheet of A4 paper but there is no upper limit. Don't try to structure or even think about what you want to write; just write down the first thing that comes to your mind. Most of it will be utter garbage, but you'll find some very interesting stuff eventually comes to the fore. Good luck in your recovery.

You should be fine, it may eventually be pushed back to your memory, no idea what you saw but apart from what you have done which is contact a therapist i cant offer anything else to it. if my experience is anything to go by, this type of thing gets pushed back in my mind to be forgotten but i haven't had any trauma before.

As for the report, there is a higher chance it went through if more people reported it.

I think this is terrible advise (no shock really).

Stuff lurking at the back of our minds that we can't process and understand is why therapists exist.

I dont fully understand what you mean.

Is it one of these things you wont get unless its happened to you?

Does this mean this has happened to you before, or that it has not happened to you before?

Because you seem to be saying both things, at once.

    Also thats terrible advice.

Mental health is a fragile balance for so many and to suggest that someone just stores a nasty, perhaps horrific memory at the back of their mind is just wrong.

It's like asking someone to store a ticking time bomb in the basement.

I'm not qualified to say, and that is why I disagree with your post.

If you don't know then don't offer specific advice.
