Did you drink green tea throughout the entire time?

Is this fast something you'd recommend to others?

I drank green tea, black coffee and diet coke. The green tea gets really monotonous.
I think fasting is very much a personal thing, so you need to look at what you want and whether fasting is the best way to achieve it. For me it fixed a specific set of problems.

Did you experience any of the mental or spiritual shifts sometimes associated with fasting ? For some who fast this of course is the end objective so it's interesting to see any

Another advocate of the 40 day fast was Dick Gregory who died recently. He was a black satiricist in the early 60's (inspiration to Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy), political and civil rights activist who later became a dietician.
He was an accomplished athlete and later became diet coach to Muhammad Ali, seen in the film account of the rumble in the jungle "When we were kings".
His motivation for regular fasting was to publicise world famine, he also went without solid food for two years as a protest against the vietnam war. At the same time he also completed several long distance protest runs.
His fascinating obituary is here ; Dick Gregory, 84, Dies; Found Humor in the Civil Rights Struggle

Not as such, but it has made me generally more stoic and resilient.

How much of the weight did you put back on?

I'm guessing you can't know for certain but do you think your body fat % is any lower that before?

The mild, early stages of malnutrition (before lethargy and serious deterioration of the body's systems kicks in) essentially feel like a stimulant hit. It's only as spiritual as drugs.

I think there's a lot of funny attitudes around altering your body chemistry to feel "spiritual".

I'm necroing this, because I've been doing 'half fasting'? Only a protein shake in the morning, then no solids until lunch, so 12-1pm ish. I'm mega impressed with the amount of time you went without food! I've been feeling energetic in the mornings, but mega hungry by eating time. Also I get very irritable, was that an issue for you?

Since this has been necroed. I usually got ravenous when i got home, since i don't always eat outside my home in all situations, i used to go basically without lunch in school for like 2 years. My only sustenance was Mints. :p

    Hangry is a real thing.

When I cut weight, (if its a struggle) I moan and talk about it with whoever is next to me at work. It's even worse when I'm with family (being Chinese) who just wanto to keep feeding you.

The people at the gym keep offering me big cheesy turnovers and so on, and then laughing at me! I've been managing to take it out on the poor souls in my spinning classes!

Hanger goes after 2-3 days as you stop producing grehlin which causes it. Because it was a fixed term thing and I was mentally prepared for it, I didn't find it too bad.

Sorry to bump this back, i dont think there is a better place to ask.

Is fasting ok and safe to do on an exercise day or after a exercise day? Im thinking about trying it. I may try it from dawn to dusk though at a start.
