Nothing ventured nothing gained! Nevermind mate, at least you gave it an honest shake.

Are you still thinking about the JKD?

Do you have a HEMA place near you? Assuming you like weapons. Also, do you come in looking like one of those ancient Wushu teachers with the whisky white beard? XD

HEMA is semi fucntional in the real world, especially if it does a lot of knife fighting, but they have it sub divided by culture and/or era as well.

Yes and I am returning to Jeet Kune Do. Going to see where it takes me. First class was today.

Should also add I have been told, by a reputable source, that the best Krav Maga teacher is at the school that is closest to me, that has not responded to any of my attempts to contact them, and has also changed their schedule a few times. If they are still there maybe I will check them out next summer, for now it is JKD.

Had to stop JKD. My wife was not at all pleased with the hours I was going to be there..... go directly from work and not get home until after 8:00. She had a good point, our youngest is in all sorts of accelerated classes and practicing 2 musical instruments which she is also rather advanced at for her age. My wife does not get home from her office until after 8:00 and she was concerned that the youngest would not be able to get everything done without help.

But I am not done yet. I am planning on checking out the Krav Maga school within the next 2 weeks. At least I am home for an hour before I have to leave for class. I will see how that goes

Going to start JKD again next month, found time, will not be as regular as I like, but I will be able to train.

Still gong to check out a local Krav Maga school as soon

Started JKD and ended JKD.... not that I wanted to, I enjoyed the training

Doctors discovers that the retina in my left I was changing pigment and thinning around the edges. This does not mean it will become a detachment, but it could detach easier than a normal retina. And since a few years back I got hit in the right eye training wing chun and I did get a retina detachment that ended up as a total detachment, and that was followed by another less sever detachment a little over a year ago I simply cannot risk getting hit and having the left eye end up like the right. If that happened my IT career would be over and I have a little less than 10 years to retirement. I can't look at the screen with my right and all I have is the left.

As for the Krav Maga school....the instructor closed the school and moved to Montana..... I found this out after I decided to go to a class, showed up and found the place locked and the sign gone. But even if I had gone, that too would be stopping now.

From this point forward I am strictly Taijiquan, my long time Yang and my dabbling in Sun.

Been at martial arts for 45 years and my eyes now have made the decision as to what I will do from here on out.

Ah, sorry to hear the health news. Does the eye issue mean no push hands/ moving step/ other TCC type of sparring?

I believe all things Taiji are fine, it is just the simple fact that training JKD you ARE going to get hit in the head and I do not want to risk the eye anymore than I have to. Sadly the same goes for Xingyiquan as well so that too is likely over.

As for Taiji, I will be getting together with my Yang Shifu regularly again soon, but it will be one on one so he can get me deeper into things taijiquan, and I am looking forward to it. Been at this taijiquan thing for 25 years now, he told me I cold teach a few years ago and I am his last serious student, or at least that is what he once told me, so hopefully it starts soon, kind of interested in seeing what he wants to teach me.

Could you train other arts with a helmet that has a face shield or cage? We had a student that had some nasal surgery. He sparred with a cage. Maybe for the eyes, this would work?

Could and that would protect my eye, but not the continued head jolting which is also a problem... I been at this Martial arts stuff for about 45 years and this eye thing is just telling me it is time to leave the hard stuff to the younger folks

Going to give it another try, but this time not the original side of the fence but the concepts side of the fence. So far, much less getting hit in the head, but it has only been one class so I will see how it goes.

Found this place by accident, it is a different teacher, and I do feel a bit guilty about that, but my schedule does not match the original teachers schedule and I really wanted to see what the difference was as it comes more form Dan Inosanto than Jerry Poteet. And this already has more of an FMA feel...or at least more FMA references were used.

And, I like it, a lot.

Interesting development appears to be occurring.

The more I train JKD, the more I want to train and am training the internal side of Xingyi and Taiji

I found that the chi gung and "internal" practice balances out the JKD very nicely and adds refinement to it - Mind you, considering my Sifu I don't get much of choice though in fairness!

JKD this evening.... it was awesome
Almost did not go, got home from work early, relaxed, ate, started trying to talk myself out of going and then I went, and I am very glad I did
