Youtube Red has put in a 10 x 30 episode order for a new series following on from the original Karate Kid films, featuring both Laruso and Jonny, both being portrayed by their original actors Macchio and Zabka, and is due to streaming on an Internet channel near you, at some point in 2018. Now, you'll notice the word comedy rearing its head a couple of times (underlined and emboldened by me) as the show boast s(???) the teams behind both "Hot tub timemachine" and "Harold & Kumar" amongst its scribes... ...Which for me at least, is preventing me at this point from becoming 100% invested in this classic blast from the past - But who knows?! I don't know ... I just don't get excited about it, either. Comedy? :shrug: I'll probably tune into the first episode, though, for a mix of nostalgia and downright curiosity.
I'm very conflicted about this. I'm extremely tired of remakes and reboots of past films and TV shows. Part of me really wants to see this. The other part of me wants to avoid it, like I avoid all other "nostalgic" reboots, purely on principle.
Not even remotely interested. Odds of it being terrible are pretty high. You usually can't recapture the magic of an old form of entertainment. Making it a comedy sounds like a bad idea to me. I really wanted to like the remake of the original film. I mean it had Jackie Chan in it, and was more Kung Fu than karate. But that fell far short of the original too IMO.
We follow Laruso in his mid 50's. Opening another McDojo and arguing on the internet about how lack of sparring didn't affect his (illegal) win at a local tournament.
I'm with aaradia. I'd rather eat my own ears. Machio didn't do Krotty back then and it's highly unlikely he does it now. I did 4 hours of Karate today and that's more than he ever did.

Another reboot, remix, milk the franchise 30 years later. I would be curious to see the first episode if it didn't cost me anything. I have very low expectations of this.
Not sure if it's a case of (misplaced) nostalgia, morbid curiosity, or a combination of both, but I'm definitely gonna have to sit thru a couple of episodes just 'scratch the itch' Though I am fairly sure that the prevailing opinions in this thread will prove to be the most accurate. Travess
I'm not yet convinced. Yes, the trailer is well made, but the story that the trailer suggests is that 30 years after high school, Johnny and Daniel-San are going to go at it because of their high school rivalry. Puh-lease. That's a stupid story. I really hope there's more to the plot.
That actually looks pretty good. Maybe I will check it out after all. I'm confused as to what sort of problem they would still have with each other. I thought that they buried the hatchet when Johnny handed Daniel the trophy at the end of the tournament. "You're alright, Larusso!"
Exactly! Johnny wasn't even in #3. Some other villain dojo student fought in the tournament under the Cobra Kai name!
