Broken foot (maybe?)

    alister Huh?

    Hi there,

a couple of weeks back I swung a full power kick into someone's pointed elbow (wasn't holding the pads right) and ended up with a huge bump on the dorsal section of my foot. Bruised up real good.

Did all the usual - RICE etc and swelling went down and left my foot a bit bumpy, slightly tender and flares up again with the slightest knock.

Anyway, been to the Dr's, getting an x-ray tomorrow, If it is chipped/cracked there's not a lot to be done, but how long will it take to mend?

4 TO 6 weeks is usual for broken bones. Depending on the severity, 8 weeks tops! Good to know that you are seeking medical evaluation rather the just us dweebs on the internet.

Had exactly the same situation before christmas. I ended up in plaster for a week until they took it off deciding that I hadn't actually broken the foot.

However it looked like there was a tiny crack in the centre bone. That was about 6 months ago and if I happen to catch the same spot with any amount of force it bruises up still. I think it was more due to repeated beating of the same spot weakening things over time.

You won't know how long it takes to mend until the doctor can see whats going on. Let us know how it goes.

I've had a stress fracture in my foot before, ended up playing on it(football) for 2 months before I stopped and got it checked out...

I'm not gonna do that again, I just made it worse and ended up having to wait even longer before it was healed.

You never realize just how often you use your feet until you get pain to remind you.

Thanks so far. Had my xray this morning, but now I've got to wait 10 days for the results to go back to my Dr.

Still gonna train - fortunately, most of the time I'm doing BJJ - will just have to work that open guard!
