Hey you want to get on the bad side of a guy whose blood type is AK-47, who can hit you so hard your blood will bleed...a guy who can make onions cry.... who once gave death a near Chuck Norris experience...you go right ahead...but you should know

He who laughs last, laughs best. He who laughs at Chuck Norris, it's definitely his last laugh.

    That's racist! :p

I too live all the British Born Chinese (or BBC) stereotypes:
    • Grew up in a better takeaway than @Mushroom
    • Better at Kung Fu than @Mushroom
    • Likes better cartoons than @Mushroom
    • Makes fun of @Mushroom (cos I'm from Newcastle)
    • I don't like tea, so PG Tips can do one
    • Sunday Roasts should be preceded by dim sum
    • Teeth aren't dodgy at all, because see second point about my Kung Fu :D
However, back on point, I've been to America on holiday, and for work, I've worked with Americans, I've lived with Americans at university, and I can honestly say, that they were some of the nicest people I have ever met. None of them particularly fit the usual stereotypes, but at least one loves his guns...

That's the image. But is it the reality?

Over 15,000-(last I knew)- people killed in just East L.A. since the 1970s. I don't think those deaths were perpetrated by good ol' boys from the deep woods.

How many of those murders were commited with knives, baseball bats and other weapons besides guns. Anyway what I was saying is I don't know many city people who own a whole collection of guns like you find in the rural areas.

You used to find a lot fewer firearms in the city because there was no place to shoot them. However, shooting ranges have proliferated over the last couple of decades, and so have the number of firearm owners in the cities and suburbs. I know a number of them.

This is especially so in Texas, where we all wear hats and boots, ride horses, and drive pickup trucks! :)

I was speaking of firearm deaths.
Well then say what you mean-what you said was-
Didn't see anything about "collections" there.

Most folks in rural areas don't have "collections"-I don't consider 3 or 4 which are used for different purposes a collection.

    You also said-
So...you got lots of experience out in the country around all those "gun nuts"-or are you just repeating what you hear/believe? My experience is that aside from true collectors the people I know of who own many firearms are mainly well to do business people of all stripes.
Maybe "fewer" is relative. An old chum moved to Texas and ran a body shop in one of the biggest dealerships in Dallas.Said they were always patching bullet holes because when people had fenderbenders they would often shoot the other guy's car!He said it was crazy but good for business. This was in the mid 80s.

I don't even know how to respond to this. It is breaking my brain. How did the people opening fire on the other person's car not end up getting shot in self defense? (Or maybe they waited til the other person wasn't in danger of being hit by the bullet? Still seems kind of risky...)

I'd like to add how is it even possible that they shoot cars and apparently no one cares much?

I mean, yeah, I know, European, we don't understand guns anyway yadda yadda yadda.

But even by "only" shooting cars you still endanger other people anyway.

Ah! No that stereotype is a no due to our distinctly different approach to guns...we require an application, background check and skill test for even a basic hunting rifle and a different process for handguns. You cannot carry them openly either and they must be secured and stored safely when not hunting or range shooting.

This is of course different than the "free with every box of cornflakes" approach favored in the US.....

    And the Japanese approach...

(via How Japan Has Virtually Eliminated Shooting Deaths)
To get a gun in Japan, first, you have to attend an all-day class and pass a written test, which are held only once per month. You also must take and pass a shooting range class. Then, head over to a hospital for a mental test and drug test (Japan is unusual in that potential gun owners must affirmatively prove their mental fitness), which you’ll file with the police. Finally, pass a rigorous background check for any criminal record or association with criminal or extremist groups, and you will be the proud new owner of your shotgun or air rifle. Just don’t forget to provide police with documentation on the specific location of the gun in your home, as well as the ammo, both of which must be locked and stored separately. And remember to have the police inspect the gun once per year and to re-take the class and exam every three years.

Even the most basic framework of Japan’s approach to gun ownership is almost the polar opposite of America’s. U.S. gun law begins with the second amendment's affirmation of the “right of the people to keep and bear arms” and narrows it down from there. Japanese law, however, starts with the 1958 act stating that “No person shall possess a firearm or firearms or a sword or swords,” later adding a few exceptions. In other words, American law is designed to enshrine access to guns, while Japan starts with the premise of forbidding it. The history of that is complicated, but it's worth noting that U.S. gun law has its roots in resistance to British gun restrictions, whereas some academic literature links the Japanese law to the national campaign to forcibly disarm the samurai, which may partially explain why the 1958 mentions firearms and swords side-by-side.

I should have been more clear. I used to own a gun. I can no longer legally own it due to my past.

If you wouldn't mind explaining this, is it any convictions that stop you owning a gun, or just specific convictions?
Is it just the state your in, or all of the USA?

Any felony bars you from owning a gun. Violent or not. Because im a non violent offender I may get my voting rights back. As for my right to own a firearm its doubtful.
