At home we joke that Taylor Swift should marry Taylor Lautner, so that her name would be Taylor Lautner. Get it -- they'd both be Taylor Lautner.

Ahem, okay, the movie. It didn't suck. I thought it was going to be bad, but it wasn't. I credit that largely to the supporting cast, which I had never heard were in this movie: Sigourney Weaver, Doctor Octopus, Lucius Malfoy, the brand-new Snow White girl coming out this summer (Lilly Collins). Whoever played his friend Gilly makes a fine sidekick character, too. I'd like to see him in a larger sidekick role.

I had the impression from the previews that the movie was about a high school student who just happens to be able to outwit and outmaneuver and outfight professional CIA-caliber hitmen, because he's Taylor Lautner, the next action star, wooo-oooo, let's all swoon in his glory. That's not really what it was about. Bad Guy spies kill his spy parents, yes, and until then he didn't know they were spies, yes, and he's on the run now with his girlfriend, yes, but he doesn't escape on his own. He is able to escape, and survive for some time, because other people help him. As movie reality goes, it made sense. It worked. Lautner's character Nathan is a great fighter (he actually kills a bad guy) but that's because his spy dad has made him practice martial arts his entire life. We see them sparring early in the movie with dad totally getting the better of him but in a training setting, and we see Lautner easily pinning someone in a high school wrestling match. So, when he chokes out a hitman with a nice triangle choke, it makes sense.

In so far as movie reality goes, the whole movie worked.

Now, there are a few plot holes. For one, it's not clear how the bad guy hitmen so easily followed the CIA, but I guess the movie would have spanned weeks instead of a couple days if we didn't grant them access. Also, I really don't think anybody can tap into surveillance cameras like that, but we've seen the same computer hackery in 20 movies before this, so I can't fault the writers too much. It wasn't clear to me, though, where Lautner obtained a particular large revolver, and we certainly don't know how he got it past the metal detectors.

But, all in all, I really like Doctor Octopus as an actor, and Sigourney Weaver couldn't do a bad job if you paid her for it. Lilly Collins is smokin' hot and she played the damsel in distress very, very well. (How did the bad guy on the train know what room Lautner was in, huh? Hmmm. She has all ten fingers. Someday "Nathan" needs to ask "Karen" that question, right?)

Well worth a rental with some popcorn, or chips & dip.

I shouldn't know this, but Taylors Lautner and Swift appear as boyfriend/girlfriend in the movie "Valentine's Day." And, in the closing credits (I refuse to accept that I actually watched the extra features), they talk a little about how they're both named "Taylor."

You can just about imagine how awesome that scene is. :p

And they were actually a couple for a while in real life but the broke up instead of getting married. Oh well.

He was very good playing Alfred Molina in that Spider-Man movie.

    :D

At least I can take comfort in the fact that I didn't know that. ;)

I was wondering why you were talking about this film and not on the "whats the last thing you watched" thread.

    :p
