Had my first squad training session yesterday, which also happened to be my first 'proper' session, (entered a competition last summer on a whim). The warm up was nice and simple, normal exercises, star jumps, jogging etc. Then we hit some solo drills, the first couple were okay, simple turns and sweeps, or twisting with sticks, working on movement patterns and grip strength. There was a drill I struggled with the footwork of, which was the movement pattern of an over the body throw. Then back to some more simple belt drills (which are great fun, you get a cracking (pun intended ) noise and hit a nice rhythm. Then we drilled a fake shoulder throw into a sweet, which was fun, and new to me! The last thing I did before leaving ten minutes early to catch my train home, was a bit of pressure testing. One person in the centre of the circle, the others approach at random, you throw or sweep. Low resistance but also not just falling over if the throw isn't working. Overall a good day, and can't wait for the next one!
Not to be a meanie or nuthin',and not aimed at hewho but why are we seeing threads rather than articles appearing in the CMA articles section?
Mod Note: Moved to Kung Fu forum from the articles area. Looks like it could have gone in wrestling too. Hewho, if you would rather have it there, let me know and I will move it again.
It is good to have wrestling in the kung fu area. it reminds people that kung fu includes grappling as well as thumping. !
