(Skip to about 1:30) Looks like there were 4 attackers, though only 2 in the initial assault, with the other 2 hanging back. I'm not really sure how much they could have done. Not sure how long those guys were following them or if it was just an attack of opportunity. I feel like even if they heard them coming behind and turned around, there wouldn't have been much they could do... maybe the attackers would have given them a chance to just give up their wallets & phones without the assault?
Agreed - It seemed very unlikely that the attackers would have indulged any 'discussion' and even if they been aware enough to stand their ground (verbally or otherwise) they would have just been postponing a similar outcome. Travess
It was a planned ambush from behind so no discussion on the cards, looks like he hit him with a weapon (brass knuckles) with the amount of blood after. Looks pretty quiet although cars are moving on the road and there looks like a car park in the background, if they survived the initial assault they could try to get people's attention as that increases the risk for the assailants getting caught or others joining in to even the odds and might cause them to flee the scene....pretty nasty.
I always...always...turn towards the sound of running feet. Most of the time it's someone jogging or running for a bus but for me that kind of rapid footstep is a major red flag.
Only thing i got is situational awareness and a weapon. Should always look behind you every so often especially if you can hear somone behind you or running.
Nasty! Situational awareness is an underated and undertrained skill in martial arts clubs. Like others have mentioned, always observe your environment. Running from behind is a massive red flag, and I often turn and angle off if I hear it without expecting it from an observation of someone jogging or similar. They will have been assessed by the attackers prior to this, it maybe a previous conversation/argument prior; either way, the skills involved to deal with these scenarios are observation.
Looks like there was a significant amount of blood on the floor, probably coming from the poor guy who got floored with the sucker punch. He appeared to be struggling for breath towards the end too (watch his chest spasms - common following unconsciousness as the brain is starved of oxygen). He should have been put in a correct recovery position as soon as possible. This video certainly highlights the need for every citizen to be trained in basic first aid.
