That fighter who died in the cage last weekend wants you to know he’s feeling much better

Pedantic point, defibs don't start a stopped heart, they shock a misbeating heart into the correct rhythm, he may not of actually been "dead". Weight cutting is a major problem though, too many people doing too many extreme cuts, for people not to hurt themselves badly.

Mushroom De-powered to come back better than before.

ONE FC has gotten rid of weight cutting by doing hydration tests on the fighters. Something about measuring density of urine etc.

Joe Rogan, admist his ramblings also wants to see it gone. I think his was broadly "weight by diets" method and weigh in every week or so prior to last weigh ins.

It always bugs me, "legally dead for 8 minutes". In the UK to be legally dead you must have had no heart beat for 20 minutes.

I read more articles and research recently about how it is taken further to the extreme. I remember fighters in the MMA gym telling me about them using a spin bike in a sauna on some occasions.

I can see how for big fights it may be easier to organise weighing in the day before, maybe on the same day would reduce the risks taken?

I like the idea of multiple weigh in before.

It always seemed like an unnecessary "skill" that someone could cut loads and put it back on for the fight and technically have a weight advantage on the day.
Your fight day weight should be your weight, not how dehydrated your body can get before a day before fight.

Ya, I opined that with my friends as we watched fights from the sofa with beer and pizza ... ahem, anyway, I completely agree with you. It sure has the appearance of being horribly unhealthy for a person. I suppose the lure of big purses makes people do crazy things, but when the whole point of preparation for a fight is to maximize your fitness -- I just don't understand it. I don't.

Its the same as boxing, and wrestling the bigger man/woman on the day has the advantage, as long as it doesn't impact their cardio.

And it's terrible for you long term.

Yeah I walk around at 70kg and the guys that can make 70kg now cut down from 84kg. A guy at the amateur show last night made that. Absolutely insane.

So I can reasonably fight at 70kg. I have to make 68kg or 66kg.

I wondered if he was heavier walking round he looked bigger, that's a big weight drop- He must have been fighting 5kg heavier than weigh in if that was the case.

still rocked him with those leg kicks :D

Oh no not that guy, he walks around at about 67. I'm talking about a different fight. They were both 70kg but they were huuuuge. Like way bigger than me.
