Went to a seminar given by my teacher and two of his former students.
All of three I befriend and could see every week for free, but hey driving with them for four hours one way was just as fun.
They are the three highest graduates, who got their ranks due gradings. I obviously know belts doesn't necessary say much, but since I know these people personally...

It was an Ajukate seminar; it was fun; I was allowed to be uke for two of them when explaining (one of them during Judo, where he enjoyed smashing me in the mats); got an awesome technique out of it for my upcoming Karate-grading; had tons of fun.

    So there!

In addition, one of them had the idea two have me graded for my yellow belt after the seminar.
It was an idea only to annoy and scare me, but somehow it became a real thing and we talked to my teacher about it, who allowed it after a couple of seconds with a big grin.
End of story: Roughly two hours time for preparation and picking techniques for what the commission wants to see (Like it says: Two locks. So I have to to do an SD technique, including attack and all, that includes two locks. Same with grabs, weapons, Karate Kihon, ATK techniques...).

Went into the grading, was out of breath with finishing Ukemi (which is the first :D), went through the disciplines and was so glad, once I had done the ATK kata, because that's the last part asked - just to hear, how two more people were asked on the mats.
Free self defence, with three attackers.

So I was glad, when that was done!
Just to hear: "Okay, randori. Hey, Frank, Jitsu or Judo!" "Judo!".
So up onto standing Judo randori.

So I was glad, when that was done!
    But surprise!
    "Okay, now on the ground!"

Me and my partner (I luckily knew him a bit, but we never trained much together, because you mostly see each other during seminars or the big holidays) were rather good together, I think, from what I've heard and he did a great job!
During the randori as well: It was really tough and he didn't let himself get thrown so I were to "look better", which in the end only makes you look stupid, because everyone knows, not every single try for a throw works out; so I managed to only throw him once, and he me once as well - so it was authentic, what I loved.
I was a little better on the ground, but again he really fought - awesome!

In the end my teacher still had two things he critizied, but also mentioned, that the dynamic was very good and that it was a good grading.
The other two actually liked what they were seeing.

I think that actually was a grading with which I'm satisfied

Got to watch @Ben Gash CLF get nearly choked unconcious by Josh Barnett. I laughed, they laughed, Ben's face went purple...then he laughed..

More(ish) on the seminar. Some moves were eye openers, but as Ben and I have trained in Catch style wrestling, some moves that were covered (DWL) was nothing new, but just having the kind of talent to add "tweaks" to imperfections were great.

Jake Shannon was also about, correcting techniques and giving some great talks...

A bit of Pro Wrestling talk with Wade Schalles and a little more indepth chat on his wrestling life was also interesting... And then cheeky Nando's with a now fully concious Sifu Gash and great catch up talk with our mini MAP meet.

    So there.

I'm off to a seminar with noted Taekwondo author and pioneer, Stuart Anslow (previously of this parish) this Sunday. Had many a back and forth with him on MAP and wanted to meet and train with him for years. So there.

I'm competing in the the first National Masters BJJ tournament on Sunday 17 September (Masters means over 30 years old.)
I am in Master 6 (1961 and before) but there was no opponent so I'm fighting in Master 5 (born 1966 and before) where there is one opponent.

After 4 decades of (not 100% continuous) training in predominately striking arts (Wadu Ryu, TKD, Kickboxing and now Goju Ryu - Though the latter does cover a lot of grappling, ground fighting and throws) I will this Tuesday be taking part in my 1st ever Judo session - Can't wait...

At first I thought the worst part of today's training would be inventing a cool story, of my slight black eye, because: "Well, during pad-work a roughly seven year old didn't hit the pad but right on my eye!" just doesn't sound right

But then I left the dojo and saw a police car standing at the street I needed to walk to get to my train.
Didn't thought much about it, since there were no alarm or anything.
Turns out, there was a dead cat; probably hit by a car :(
Right when I was passing them, one of the officers picked up the dead cat at the neck to lie her down a little less in the way: It was tabby/grey (hard to say in the dark) with a white triangle on the face.
So, the logical thing for me was, to call my Mom who had just closed the shop and make her look for my two cats at my home - on of them tabby with white; among others a white triangle at the face.
I didn't care, that logic dictated it couldn't be him (he doesn't get out and certainly not that far away, if it were the first time ever); so she checked on him, I cuddled him to death, gave him a toy and keep watching him now.

Also I feel miserable, due to my other cats, that died years ago.

So there. I'm a total wimp.

A wimp, with a slight black eye from a little kid

Mushroom De-powered to come back better than before.

Friday, I stacked it on some steps. And felt a massive crunch and pop in my knee.

6hrs laters I'm finally out of A and E but in a cricket bat splint and crutches.

2 days later, I'm standing without the splint (but still wobbly).

    Silver lining etc..... so there.

Got in about an hour ago, from my 1st Judo session, and I am still buzzing. So much to learn, so much to unlearn, so much to adapt, and it seems that I have found a great group of people to achieve all that with - Really looking forward to next Tuesday now...

My eldest daughter (soon to be 7 years old) took part in her 1st ever Karate competition on Saturday, claiming Bronze in her division for individual Sparring, and Gold (along with 3 other team mates) in the team Striking (on a BoB) event...

    ...so (a resounding) there!

I can't know yet, but I'm pretty sure I got myself into trouble today with my Sensei. Twice. :D
And both, because I was being dumb :D

First: I asked him to take a look at my kata on Thursday.
Were my karate coach says: "Yes, good. Do it like that during the grading and you'll be fine!" my Sensei is more like: "Start it again!" after I do two, maybe three movements.
I would be sort of surprised, if I make it to the end :D

Second: I now know that I will never be able to run criss-cross over the mats, since my brain is just not wired like that.
It's what my Doc told me and it's really what it feels like, when I'm told to do it anyway.
Now, it makes my Sensei really mad if I don't do that; after all, it's what I was being told to do!
Therefore I told him today, what my Doc said to me; that it's nothing I can learn and won't ever be able to do; I worked on getting to term with that.
So my Sensei looked at me, with this very warm and sympathetic look in his eyes, smiled nice, and said: "Want to bet, that we can make that possible?!" - and within a second there was this mischievous stare, that let me know, that I'm in even bigger trouble now, than I was before.
I'm afraid, he will never again let us run in circles, drive me crazy. So, yeah, pretty much being close to get scared to show up on Thursday :D

Wow, over 40 and starting judo?! Dude, you are one tough man! Those hard falls just don't suit me anymore now that I'm past 45. My body doesn't heal as quickly as it used to.:oops: Kudos to you, man!!!

I'm with Aikimac...I tried judo a couple of years ago when I was 42/43 and I just couldn't take the severity of it. Took a couple of falls that damn near knocked me out and decided it was just a matter of time before I got injured. So bailed to go back to taekwondo. :(
