    AndrewTheAndroid A hero for fun.

I'm in the exact same boat. As long as you put in the effort and time you'll get good.

I started in my mid-thirties as well. Just keep showing up and learning. Make training a priority, but balance appropriately with family life.

I find that my focus and discipline acquired later in life actually serve me better than the physical prowess I had as a younger man.

It depends on the group/organisation, do you know what group it is?

I don't want to sound like a discouraging jerk, but you may also want to consider if that's already a good idea.
Most beginners I've met would still mistakes (which is pretty normal; otherwise the coaches would be out of jobs soon), and I'd be concerned to learn something wrong; getting something wrong out of the system is more work, than learning something from the start.

If you can do the pattern at home and detect if you go wrong with it, i personally see no reason not to do it at home. Hard to explain, but i had some knowledge and memory on how to do the patterns before i started TKD again since i did it before and then i did an hour-long lesson which basically was a 1:1 lesson with the instructor to learn the patterns last week. But just to repeat, the prerequisite is being able to know if you have done it wrong or right.

Oh, i also have no idea what the first belt patterns for Karate is, so it could be like 20X more complicated than the TKD ones. :p

Yes I understand , no offence taken , thought it might have been good to practice the kata, I won’t run before I can walk

If that's what you've been working on in class, practicing at home is a great idea and really a must to reach your full potential. Otherwise you don't want to get ahead of yourself there, especially in the beginning (which I think was what Latikos was getting at.)

Great to see the enthusiasm you have!

John, have you considered asking your instructor for guidance?

He's probably in the best position to provide any required home study material.

    Your enthusiasm is commendable, though.

All of the above for this - Stick to stuff that you have covered (and recovered) got wrong, and been corrected on in class. Definitely speak to your instructor, ask him/her for work-on areas that he/she feels will benefit you, but IF you require a reminder out of ours, use ONLY source material from your own club/organisation.

    +1 for enthusiasm!

No not really asked yet as I don’t want to seem like I’m getting ahead of myself , same reason why I haven’t asked about uniform

I’m just eager to learn and hopefully cut out the nerves , and awquadness of making little mistakes . Although I know no ones judging me

I think it's perfectly fine for you to ask about a uniform at this point.

There is nothing wrong with asking questions about what you've learned in class. It shows that you're interested.

I just wouldn't necessarily bring up belt testing at this point.

A teacher will always be pleased to see this sort of enthusiasm :)

Ask them, I'm sure they will be able to point you in the right direction for their club.
