We use the phoenix-eye fist in Wing Chun... but only for soft targets... and we don't do a lot of hand conditioning in our association other than the wall bag. So what if you screw up and nail a hard target? Well I just had to try out those Phoenix-eye push-ups on concrete after watching that video. Ouch! They were tough... but not impossible.

...Guess I'll be adding a little more wall bag hitting and some of those push-ups to my training routine!

Trying to use any specialized "fists" full on at 100% intensity/power without conditioning your hand to be able to absorb the impact is quite important.... also your wrist strength is also important as it helps to support the overall structure.

training the correct alignment for each type of strike is also very important. in this case, the index finger has a natural inwards angle, particularly when bent, so learning at which angle it can resist a load, and strengthening it is essential if you plan on doing any sort of impact with it
